Description

A Light Box primarly made only as a How You Doin' Lamp with USB LED stick

120x120x35mm

I'm uploading it with many optional addons

You can also remix it and add more different panels or addons for light parts

---

Base model made with a built-in groove for a Z-seam and with a hole on the bottom back part for cables

There are files to cover this hole, add different ones, add cable attachements etc. - list below

The only Cover (panel) for now is How You Doin' from Friends Series. Text made by me on base of Friends logo

I'm not planning to make more

But there is also a Cover Template (solid model) and a Negative Volume to remove the excess parts of (for example) a lithophane model
Cover may be little hard to push in the Base but some bending will do the work - I didn't want it to fall out

List of addons for a Base with descriptions:
You can resize, move or rotate them if you want
They are with a ‘frame’, a flat, nonprintable part around them to help you line it up with base models - don't ‘fix’ the models, just ignore ‘error’ notification

Also remember to merge models together (Base + addons)

  • bottom-hole - use it as a ‘negative volume’ with a Base to add a hole on the bottom of LightBox - use this addon if you will hang LightBox on the wall
  • cable-attachement-exit - a single arc for attaching a cable with zip-ties, this one is near the original hole
  • cable-attachement-exit-sides - the same but on both sides of the hole
  • cable-attachement-middle-1 - single arc for cable in the middle
  • cable-attachement-middle-2 - double arc in the middle
  • hole-fill - model to ‘remove’ an original hole in Base - use for example if you want to hang LightBox on the wall and you will use ‘bottom-hole’ addon
  • hole-shrinker - this one will only make the original hole smaller - may be usefull for led strips if you don't want the light to come out of the hole
  • Led-Strip-Frame - a frame where you put a led strip to help spread out the light more evenly - only for max 2mm thick led strips - see photos
  • legs - a ‘legs’ that will add 4mm on the bottom - I made it because some surfaces may interact with usb led sticks with touch switch
  • nail-hole - use as ‘negative volume’ to add a holes to hang the LightBox on wall on a nail, screw etc. - resize and move to a different place if needed
  • usb-stick-back - a frame for an usb led stick (see photo, will work only with this one), will face the light to front
  • usb-stick-bottom - the same but on the bottom of the Base so it will face the light up. You can rotate by 180dgr to move it on top

Additional Files:

  • Cover-Negative-Volume_08 - use it with external model (upside-down) for a panel to cut the proper shape out of it (116x116x8mm)
  • Cover-Negative-Volume_30 - the same but 3mm thick, as litophanes (upside-down) made with makeMyLithophane - set litophane as without a frame, size 116mm on X and Y axis
  • Cover-Template - a solid Cover model to use as a template
  • usb-stick-diffuser - a diffuser for usb led stick (only as the one on photo), it will help spread the light better
  • test_Base - test file for a Base. It's only the top part where the Cover will go
  • test_Cover - test file for Cover. Try to fit it in the Base test. You can also print normal Cover file and test it on Base test

How You Doin' (LightBox-howyoudoin_Cover)

  • Dot-blue , orange, red - dots to print (sepparate) in proper color and glue in to Cover
  • Dots - all 3 dots to print with a Cover, merge both models - only if you can print in 5 colors or you will use only 2, not 3 colors of dots or one white dot instead of orange (for example)
  • Dots-cutted - this version starts printing dots only after text is printed - this way you can pause the print, change white to yellow and print the rest - see print profile
  • Text - a text for printing in white

It was made for multicolor printers but you can try to print it with a single color

Dot-blue, orange and red is simple, just glue it in

Text may be more difficult. Print it with at least -0.1mm XY compensation - print it before the Cover and after printing the cover try to push letters in (when cover is still on the plate)

---

Printing settings:

  • Made for 0.16mm layer height - you can also use 0.08, maybe 0.1 will work too
  • Printed with 1 wall - walls turned off for Text and dots in How You Doin' Cover
  • No supports needed
