Description

This is inspired by the “Annoying Gift Box” that most people (including my wife) have seen on TikTok.

The size of the original is quite small, and the 3 different versions of it didn't give me exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a large internal volume (4"x4"x4"), and I wanted this to look like a Christmas present with zero visible screws. So obviously I spent far too much time modeling this up and figured that I would share it for free instead of charge people for it :)

3 Boxes

Ribbon & Bow

120 total screws

You do need a few dabs of CA glue to hold the inner box posts in place. :)

You can add glue for the white threaded part as well but it works without it

Thanks for viewing, and take a look at my other models for things that I have designed for myself because the originals weren't exactly what I was desiring

EDIT: I have also designed a bin with magnetic slide lid for storing the multitude of screws. 3 partitions to separate by color :)

Thanks for the great design. How is the bow installed? Is it glued?

It is either a snap fit or you can use glue if you want

Thank you. Also, thank you for posting the STP files, so we can do small edits as needed. For example, I am experimenting now with having the inner lid and its posts as one part. Will post the result. The other find... the inner lid needs supports when printed on P1P.

How are you planning on holding this lid down? it looks like you maybe accidentally edited out the shoulders that the screws use to hold the lid down. To be clear what you are showing is absolutely not how it was designed with tolerances or functionality

What a fun, playable gift box design. My son took liking to the Matryoshka doll aspect of this and asked me to print him one. I think he’ll enjoy it… or snap one of the screws. Fingers crossed 😅 One personal learning for printing this was… use your most durable material like PLA-CF to print the inner-most box, because that’s the very thing that screws will get screwed into. No supports needed. My auto settings added the brims - I had a debuting tool ready, so no issue there. I think you’d be TOTALLY fine by skipping all 4 posts. I was super-glueing these posts and trying to get them aligned with the holes - I ended up temporarily posting the 4 corner screws as spacers so that I wouldn’t accidentally superglue the lid right onto the box. Plz refer to the attached photo. I hate to say anything negative - thank you x3 to the designer for sharing this - but I think the design could been just a touch cleaner by skipping the posts and their associated holes altogether.

You can skip the posts if you want, I wouldn't be offended. The posts however do serve a specific purpose. If the person opening the middle box opens the top side where the inner box opens, then the bottom half of the middle box doesn't need to be removed to open the inner box. Secondly it acts as one of those "gotcha" moments when the person opening it thinks they have discovered a short cut just to have it backfire. But if you want to skip the posts that is totally fine with me 🙂

@Mechengg I was just wondering if there were any specific settings you prefer for Enders? For example should i change it from "Middle" to the one that makes it slightly small to fit perfectly? I was also wondering if i could add more that 120 screws? i thought i saw some more holes. Thanks.

I have not used an Ender to date so I can't comment on settings that you should use, sorry. There are currently room for 120 screws as some screws go through more than 1 hole

Easy to print, very well laid out, and was a hit at our offices white elephant.

Used black box, red ribbon, red middle box and white internal box, looks great! (also messed around with the screws)

I can't get it printed. It seems to be a problem with layer time. Does anyone have a hint?

I'm sorry I don't know why yours is sliced like that. this is what it looks like on my end, it's a consistent speed.

OK. Then my setting must be different. I print with the X1C. There are two other users on reddit who have exactly the same problem with this print. I have already adjusted Order of walls but without any improvement. Here is another picture of the problematic layer.

Do you have a link to the thread? I just looked through the past 24hr of threads on Bambu subreddit and didn't find anything that looked like it

This is fun - one caveat is that it takes almost as long to assemble than it would be to unwrap, so it is a double-edged sword. The wife's birthday is in mid December, waiting with baited breath to hand over her worst nightmare - I may be single after that day. I do have some constructive criticism on the model - - It would be great to get rid of the need for glue-ing (there is a remix now, sadly only saw it after I already glued and assembled) - The ribbons are kinda flimsy when taking off the supports - I cracked one. (Nothing a re-print on a single didn't fix, I probably should have been more careful) - I re-printed the included screwdriver tip standing up - it gave me a better result since no supports are needed (no cleanups, no residue and marks)

Hey thanks for the rating and feedback on the design! First off, I love the color scheme. Secondly I really do truly appreciate feedback on design elements. I actually printed both versions of the lid box (posts detached and posts built in) and the tolerances around the holes especially around the corners came out less than adequate and not up to my (probably overly) high standards. This is the reason for the print orientation and splitting. Potentially the remix is able to fix the issue, but it ended up being a non-starter for me. Lastly I wanted to comment on the ribbon breaking. I didn't have any issues with flexing the plate and removing the supports on my 4 full prints to date. I let my wife remove the supports because she enjoys destroying things so I'll ask her if it's hard to do or if you are the modern equivalent to hulk Hogan 😉

There's a holiday tradition of giving my father in-law a present wrapped in the most annoying way possible. I think we've found this year's winner. As a bonus, I'm seriously thinking the present inside might be a small screwdriver.

Such a fun print. I did this for my twins 11 birthday. only issue I had was the side ribbons are very easy to break, but that was easily fixed by upping the infill for this parts.

I noticed the ribbons when I finally printed one set in silk filament. Silk definitely doesn't have the same strength that the regular PLA does but upping walls to 4 when using silk made it work
