Description
This design is a clip for the Icon Plastics 9L Round Heavy Duty Plastic Bucket that we got from Bunnings - https://www.bunnings.com.au/icon-plastics-9l-round-heavy-duty-plastic-bucket_p4475126?srsltid=AfmBOoomlM8z3M7CiEIEhPzKMXTik5c-Fy6RvTI53apGeyn3gHjNTRK6.
Its purpose was to allow my daughter to quickly and easily fill up buckets of water for refilling an aquarium after a water change.
Having only 6L and 8L marks allows for various combinations and the two sizes allows for the same amount of water conditioner to be added each time. 6L and 8L is also a weight that is not too heavy to be lifted by her (6kg/8kg).
These buckets come in blue/black/yellow and were AU $5.00
The clip would fit buckets with a top internal diameter of 245mm
and a lip that is about 12mm wide.
The bucket I have them on are (The icon plastics bucket mentioned above)
- 245mm internal top diameter
- 200mm internal bottom diameter
- 247mm internal height
- 12mmx 12mm lip
The system is this
- Emptying water out of tank - 24L
- Say you have a 130L tank containing gravel and ornaments, so about 120L of water, and if you did a 20% water change, that would be 120 * 0.2 = 24 litres
- AU $20 - Perform a water change using a larger bucket say 20L like this one at AU $10 - https://www.bunnings.com.au/handy-20l-pail-bucket-with-lid_p4475875 and - this bucket stays on the ground and an adult can easily empty it out. Having 2 means you can fill each once with 12L in each - she can just about manage that pouring the water out on the lawn and the tall sides keeps the siphon in the bucket.
- Use these buckets of water to lightly shake any dirt off the tanks sponge filters. is fine for these to be left with brown gunk which is the bacteria as part of the nitrogen cycle.
- Refilling tank - 24L = 6L in 4 buckets - having more buckets means the water conditioner has time to work - supposedly takes a minute or two, and is quicker filling multiple buckets with smaller amounts of water. Kids can do each task in sequence.
- AU $15 - 3 x 9 litre buckets filled with 6L of water containing water conditioner to remove the chlorine from the tap water - total of 18L
- AU $10 - one bucket that has a lip for easy pouring back into the tank filled with 6L of water containing water conditioner
- Always pour water into tank using the bucket with the lip, that means less spills
- Then when the lip bucket is empty, you can pour the next 6L of water into the lipped bucket and repeat.
- If your kids can lift them high easily, you could do 3 buckets x 8L and buy 1 less bucket. Or if you don't want to buy as many buckets, you can just keep filling the same one.
