Description

Attention!

There are 2 different ring sizes, as stated in the info below.  If you print plate 1 (the new (smaller) spool size and it seems too small, you probably have an older spool and should try printing plate 2, which is about 1mm bigger for the older spools.  If you printed plate 2 and it's too big, then print plate 1 instead.  Unfortunately there's really no way of knowing what you have unless you can carefully measure the diameter of the spools or happen to be lucky and have 1 of each on hand so you can see the difference.

Why?

I got tired of trying to get other adapter rings to stay on the Elegoo cardboard spools; they kept popping off.

What's different?

These spool adapters have a small lip on the inside that makes them snap over the spools and stay put.

Anything else?

This model includes two plates, each with a different size ring.

  • Plate 1: 201mm ring for the newer Elegoo spools which are slightly smaller.
  • Plate 2: 202mm ring for the older (slightly larger) Elegoo spools.

Note: You need to print TWO copies of any ONE plate for a given spool. In other words, DO NOT print plate 1 then print plate 2 expecting that to work - you will have two different sized rings if you do.

Note 2:  As others have said, this model needs to be printed at the .16mm layer height specified in the original print profile, due to the tolerances needed for it to still fit in the AMS and the spool filament holes.

What's New?

Version 2:

  • Reduced size of Large Ring by .5 mm so that it better fits in AMS
  • Added “L” to large ring and “S” to small ring (under the logo) to help identify which is which
  • Increased the filament hole size on large ring.

Version 1:

  • Initial upload.

I had the same issue. Tried it on rapid PLA+ and rapid PETG spools :(

Which size did you print (new small or older large)?

There are 2 sizes because Elegoo changed their spool size. Which did you print? It looks like you need the large one (on plate 2) from your pictures.

Nice tight fit. Printed large one. Fits nicely on both my PLA plus and PLA rapid plus. My PLA plus spool is raw cardboard and slightly smaller so when placed in AMS, there’s no rubbing on the AMS lid. Sadly on my PLA Rapid Plus spool it rubs against the lid of the AMS. This spool comes with a laminated cardboard exterior. Really like how it slots in the two holes, prevents rolling. Sadly elegoo spools are all random sizes!

Thanks for the info! I've struggled with being able to make something that will fit over the larger (older), but it is already at about the max size. I may tweak it some more if possible, but as I said, it is the older spool. Elegoo shrunk the spools by 1mm several months back (likely to accommodate their own), but they've either reverted back to the large spool (with glued edges) or else there's still enough stock of the older spools out there to be a problem.

Agreed that it's frustrating! Especially since I'm seeing cardboard dust on the front wheels of the AMS. I also want to avoid rubbing on the lid. Not sure if this helps, but I purchased 10kg of each Black and Grey spools a couple weeks ago, they were delivered on Dec 31, 2024. Maybe like you said, they are trying to clear inventory.

Oh, one more thing, not sure if this may help as well, I printed this, https://makerworld.com/en/models/396689 ; since this is pretty bare bones, it worked for the larger spool. BUT, It comes really close to touching. Maybe this might help when comparing the thickness. Ideally we can shave off another 0.5mm from the outside wall. I'm brand new in 3D printing, so don't know how to modify anything yet... hopefully this gives you some insight

Printed both sizes in Bambu Lab PETG-HF because I wasn’t sure which size I needed. The first one didn’t fit because it was too small but the second fitted perfectly and then printed the other side and very happy with the results…

I printed these out on a carbon effect plate, they turned out pretty good. I think by turning on the one wall on initial layer feature, the quality would be better. that being said, these printed great and are certanly stronger than a lot of the other rings I've printed which seem to crack at the lip, these are thicker and more robust, ill be using these ones again in future (with one wall on first layer) 😉 thanks

I confirm that by the time I wrote this comment the model from the plate 1 still works for new Elegoo filaments. The cardboard doesn't lose its form despite the tight fit. That said, you should apply a little bit of pressure to tuck the cardboad inside the adapter. At the beginning of the print job the spool might shake and adjust a little bit, but it did very well its job.

When I printed S, one part did not fit, so I ended up with an S and L combination The outcome is fantastic
