Description

[Update Jan-22, 2025]

Happy New Year everyone and so sorry for the delay as we recently had a baby! The file has been updated to address the sagging issue many of you encountered. Now the dessicant container has supports on the sides to bear the weight of  filament reels. The lid geometry has also been revised so the lip can make contact with the supports. Hope this file works out for everyone.

Introducing the Minimalist Cereal Box Desiccant System!

Hi, my name is Otto. I am new to 3D printing and this is my very first upload on Maker World! I am of course new to 3D modeling as well, so any feedback is welcome!

This design was inspired by Random Walk and user_765292525 designs. I combined their simplicity and added my own unique preferences such as having the desiccant compartment extend all the way through the back, and being able to prop up a hygrometer to display humidity.

I live in a hot and humid climate so fighting moisture has been a top priority since day 1. Hope you all like the upload!

Key Features:

  1. Only 42g of filament used
  2. Prints in 1hr 15min to save you time
  3. No other hardware/gluing needed
  4. Keeps the compartment <10% RH

Instructions:

  1. Download 3MF file → Slice → Print. Everything is optimized to print and will fit snugly on the bottom.
  2. Lid: Use 0 Layers for Top/Bottom Shells. This is crucial to achieve the mesh pattern on the lid.
  3. I used 30% Infill Honeycomb Pattern for my 3-4mm diameter dessicants. 25% was too sparse for mine.

Tips:

  1. Please place the lid onto the container first! The lid will not fit if Hygrometer is placed first.
  2. When changing out the desiccant, simply remove the hygrometer holder first.
  3. Tilt the Hygrometer holder forward a little to ease it into the clip cavity. Removing is also easier if you tilt in the same way.
  4. Press “S” to micro-adjust the scalingto fit your cereal box snugly. To minimize filament, I made the walls thin so most of the structural rigidity should come from the cereal box surrounding it. Don't worry, the hygrometer holder diameter is designed on the bigger side if you need to shrink the design.
