Description

I purchased an Amazon Basics 4V Electric Screwdriver based on the recommendation of several people I trust. I can say I am not disappointed. The driver works great and has far more torque than I expected. The only issue is there was no case included.

That's ok because I enjoy this sort of design work. Here is my attempt at a portable case for this tool. I have included a single color and multicolor case variation. I have included the models in STEP and STL so you can modify it in your favorite CAD package to fit your needs. I have also linked the native Onshape file below if you utilize that cad package like me.

Update: per a user request I have added an alternate version which uses Qty:2 - 6mmx2mm magnets to retain the lid while closed. It is located in the “Alternate Version - Magnetic Lid” folder as STEP files.

Perfect print and super cool design with the image on top however I wish it ‘clicked’ into the bottom or something to hold on when picking it up/moving it around.

I use mine in a rolling tool chest, so I wanted mine to pull off easier. Any chance you would want to modify the Onshape to make a remix with a snap feature to share with others?

I can try but I’m brand new to this so it may be a while to figure things out. it’s still a great item!

Fantastic, thank you so much! I printed the version with the magnet holes but magnets won't arrive until tomorrow. The lid doesn't feel too tight, although it does pick up the bit driver extension as you can see in the first photo. The other issue I ran into is that it requires all the bits to be pushed fully into the holder or the lid won't close fully. When I got mine, they were all only pushed in about half-way. Pushing them fully is fine, it just means they're a lot harder to get out. So I guess a minor improvement/suggestion would be to allow a little more room above the bits, but certainly not worth a reprint! Thanks again! I printed on the A1 Mini even though they're no profile for it. In the desktop app I just used the "arrange" button and it put the model diagonal and it fit perfectly. Elegoo PLA.

Hmm, my hex bit adapter fits looser than that. Looks like I should add tolerance for MFG tolerance variations. And I did make the pocket short so the bit didn't rattle around. I know this makes it so the bits have to sit down fully. I can look into what it would take to make the pocket deeper. Do you have a suggestion for the height of pocket you would like to see?

I do not. I will just push them all the way down. The issue certainly doesn’t warrant a reprint in my opinion, just wanted to let you know. thanks again!

Replying to @eclien :
The magnets came in the mail today. I needed a hammer+punch to push them in, it was a tight fit. I don't think two sets of these are strong enough to hold the lid on very well. If I leave the case empty, put the lid on, then hold it upside down, the lid just falls off. The magnets are sticking, they're just not powerful enough even to hold the weight of the lid. Maybe bigger magnet holes and additional one in the blank space in the upper right? In any case I'm still really happy with the print and I'm not inclined to print it again. Thanks again! Update: Upon further inspection I found that the magnets I ordered are actually only 1.66mm tall, not 2mm, so that's probably why they don't hold well (probably not fully sticking to each other). 🤷

Excellent work. Since you so kindly supplied the STEP file, I used it to slightly increase the length of the bit extender cutout and increase the depth of the bit holder cutout in the lid since I was getting a small amount of interference in those two areas. I also embossed some slots in the side of the lid to allow a better grip. The slots were not entirely successful because of the overhang, but they work well enough and I was too lazy to go back and use a better slot profile.

This case printed very well with PLA and aside from from some very minor sanding to keep the extension socket from getting stuck in the lid. I prefer this actually, because it let me quickly make it so the extension does not rattle, nor stick to the lid. It's perfect. Thank You!

Very nice print. Only thing I could complain about is the magnetic bit is a little tight in the case. a little sanding took care of it. Did some sanding on the inside of the lid to help it come of the base smoother as well

Someone else mentioned their magnet was tight too. Mine is actually a loose fit, so they must have variation in the hex drivers they send. I need to get the model updated to loosen up the tolerance on that since there's no reason it needs to be tight.
