Description

Alas, the humble tower of cards. So magnificent, yet so daunting… Mesmerizing, yet frighteningly delicate. What if there was a solution that required little skill, not glue or tape, and just a couple grams of plastic?

Well, voila! With these card tower clips you can achieve masterful constructions with just two grams of filament and less than 20 minutes of printing time!

Design:

I created this solution for the “Last Meters” competition with several goals in mind. The design had to:

  • Use very little filament
  • Print quickly without problems
  • Be easy to slice and print
  • Be able to be used in fun and creative ways

After seven iterations, the final result requires a mere .5m (2g) of filament and 17 minutes to print! This print makes 12 clips, the amount needed to build a classic six-stack card tower. The STL file is available as an individual version as well if you want to customize the number. Unlike gluing, taping, or cutting cards to make towers, this method of card stacking doesn't cause any damage!

Application:

Right off the build plate, all you need to do is grab some playing cards and slide two clips onto the top edge. Then insert the second card into the clips and you'll have a 45 degree card tent. From there you can build towers just like normal, except it will no longer be so prone to collapse! Refer to the image below to attach clips:

Once your card tower is finished, you'll notice that the clips are hidden decently, so the tower looks freestanding!

Note: You can also print these in a transparent filament to make them even more hidden.

Conclusion:

I hope you enjoy these super simple, filament-efficient clips, and be creative with how you build with them! If there is a lot of interest in these, I'm considering making a whole line of clips to build all kinds of card constructions!
