Description

This is a lens cap for the popular instax mini evo hybrid camera from Fujifilm.

I really liked the cap design for professional cameras, but couldn't find a 3D model of one, so I made my own.

The cap is made of 2 parts, printed side by side. For assembly, use some super glue on the underside cutout on the fixed part, then pop the center pin of the moving part in, let it dry and that's it. I might try a glue-less assembly in V2, if it is requested.

The part prints well without supports, however it can be a little rough around the edges, so you can reverse the fixed part and add supports if you want it to be smoother.

The spring design of the moving part is a bit too rigid, but it does the trick. You can push it in if you put one side under the lens ring, squeeze it and push down on the other side. The release is much smoother, just squeeze and it should pop right out.

The diameter of the cap is 44mm, matching the inner diameter of the mini evo. There is also a lip at the bottom of the moving part, in order for it to stick to the underside of the plastic ring around the lens.

I don't know if this particular design is compatible with other cameras, however if you'd like me to customize it to the dimensions of your own camera, leave me a message.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk :) Leave a like if you enjoyed the print!

The clamping device for gluing unfortunately broke immediately and the spring mechanism is too stiff to allow for gentle compression. After firmly attaching it to the lens, removing it pulls the camera's rotating part out with it.

great design, looks like a real lens cap, but the two halves are too fragile and break apart. A more robust connection and less stiff spring mechanism would be needed for this to be a usable design.

Printed well, used tree supports on the inside edge and they came off easily with default slicer settings. Tried to print in Polycarbonate but super glue doesn't seem to want to stick to it. Reprinted in ABS and it works nicely! While there are 2 tabs to squeeze, I find inserting/removing it easiest by pressing only 1 side and tilting/lifting the cap out. Now to find a way to store it that doesn't involve tossing it into my pants pocket...
