Description

This holder is designed for power tools with a conical front and is available in various sizes. The base diameter, which is the cylindrical part at the top, ranges from 30mm to 80mm. For each base size, there are 20 variants with different taper values ranging from 1mm to 20mm:

Print profiles are categorized by their base diameter. Plates are named according to the taper relative to the base diameter in millimeters. For example, a plate with a 10mm taper on a 30mm base diameter will have a top diameter of 30mm and a bottom diameter of 20mm (30mm - 10mm).

Inside the zip file and within the print profiles, STL files are named based on both the base diameter and the tapered diameter, such as "30mm to 20mm.stl". This naming convention,  was chosen to maintain organization while managing over 1,000 files in the slicer through Drag'n'Drop operations.

Each holder includes an additional 0.5mm of clearance to accommodate printing variances, so a holder labeled as 50mm in diameter is actually 50.5mm. The space between the board and the inner surface of the cylindrical part is 10mm. Adjust the print profile settings based on the expected load; heavy power tools may require more than three perimeters.

Compatibility

This holder is universally compatible with most brands of power tools, with the exception of certain types. Jigsaws, circular saws, routers, and other non-conical tools are not compatible.

Size Selection

Follow these steps to choose the right size:

  1. Evaluate the Tool:
    • Identify the part of the tool most suitable for the holder. Consider the center of gravity, thickness, and obstructive elements.
    • Ensure the space covers the entire 30mm between the base and the tapered part of the holder.
  2. Determine the Base Diameter:
  3. Determine the Tapering:
    • Measure the required tapering at a distance of 30mm from the base diameter using the diameter gauge or calipers.
  4. Select the Print Profile:
    • Open the print profile corresponding to the determined base diameter and choose the plate that matches the tapering.
    • Plates are named according to the tapering in mm. For example, Plate 1 = 1mm tapering, Plate 2 = 2mm tapering, and so on. If you have a base diameter of 45mm and a tapered diameter of 33mm, choose Plate 12 ('12mm Taper') because 45mm - 33mm = 12mm.

Things to Consider

  • Positioning: Ensure the base is positioned so that no part of the tool extends more than 10mm towards the board to avoid contact or obstruction.
  • Clearance: Exact dimensions are often unnecessary; some clearance can be beneficial for easy retrieval. Holders that are up to 4mm larger than needed (tapered diameter) have worked well in my experience.

Installation

The holder can be mounted on the Skadis board like any other accessory. I highly recommend using my Double Lock plug (in 9.5 or 10mm) to prevent the bracket from detaching accidentally when grabbing the tool. Additionally, it helps to reduce the cylindrical stress on the hooks.

Related Models

While you can use calipers to measure the required diameter, I recommend using my Diameter Gauge for a more precise measurement solution:
