Description

Having viewed the passthrough models by RJ Design, Eternity Labs, Print Doc and others I was inspired to create my own model.

No CAD, image or other digital files were downloaded or copied to enable this design, I created this model entirely on BlocksCAD.

I designed these in the form of a stubby marker with a six arm spiral passthrough.

With the body and the passthrough being separate you can colour co-ordinate to suit personal taste.

Separate STL files vertically orientated for each part of the model are provided.

The render layer resolution relates to the memory constraints encountered with BlocksCAD and specified the minimum step applied.

Print details

Filament: Sunlu PLA+ in a variety of colours (Brown, Red, Yellow and Green)

Layer Height: 0.15mm

Wall Thickness: 2mm

Infill Density: 100%

Base Adhesion: Skirt

Print Time: 4.5 hrs (Both parts of the model)

I printed both parts of the model at the same time in the same colour and then repeated the process in a different colour, mixing colours within different models.

Feel free to print the elements separately and vary the print details as suits your printer and or materials.

Post Processing

Areas the may prevent the passthrough are aberrations at the tips, between the gaps or on the inner walls on the marker body or on the pass through itself.

A needle file/fine sandpaper can be used on the passthrough if needed.

For the marker body the circular openings will accept a 4.8mm drill bit and a needle file for the slots.

Check the fit by slowly feeding the point of the passthrough up through the bottom of the marker body and out through the top.

Repeat in the reverse direction base of the passthrough down through the tip of the body.

Rotate the body by 60 dgrees with respect to a reference spiral slot and check the passthrough.

Any, if an resistance encountered should be remedied to prevent possible sticking.

If any sticking is encountered which resists hand removal by an opposite force to insertion (insufficient passthrough to hold), start first by holding the body and applying a dowel (≤9.5 (dia) mm), or nut driver to the tip and pushing the passthrough out.

Even if no resistance prevents the passthrough in one direction it may in the reverse direction (base of passthrough presented to the tip of the body), and or with the spiral arms rotated.

Therefore, check all the different insertion points for the passthrough.

Assembly

Subject to post processing requirements.

The passthrough can be inserted in two orientations

Passthrough tip up through the base of the marker body and out the top.

Passthrough base down through the top of the marker body.
