I like building things using PVC pipe. Here is an adjustable connector for standard ½" PVC pipe. It uses ¼ x 1 1/4" bolt and nut glued to the knobs, but you could use it without the knobs if you want. The connector has small holes to faciliitate running wire through the pipe.
