Description

This is not “just another fidget cube”.

It's a very different design that is super fun, has a crazy number of combinations and is pretty much a puzzle as much as a toy - can you find all the shapes it can make?

  • Can you get it back to the starting position?
  • How quickly can you get it from the cube configuration to the snake and back?
  • Copies - I have had some DMs about some copies of this design that have sprung up on Makerworld - check the dates on this which is my first iterations - this is the original! These copies are called “Upgraded Infinity Cube”,  “Shape Snake Fidget Fun” and “Ultimate Fidget Cube Print in Place”. Would be nice if they credited us for the original, but there you go! If you see any other copies let me know as it's fun to see this design spreading.
  • Kubo - I have also had some DMs about a fidget called Kubo by Kubominds on Kickstarter - this has nothing to do with me and you will notice the date on my original design is from well before that Kickstarter went live. They have been very successful in selling the model though so if you would like a commercial licence for my original and first design please checkout my Patreon

Printing instructions

  • Print using the built-in profile
  • There are 4 sizes in the first profile there from 100% down to 70%
  • There are 55% and 60% versions in the second profile
    • I actually love playing with these smaller sizes the most!
  • You can even print it at 50% with a well-tuned printer - maybe smaller? Let me know if you do manage!
  • Ease the joints gently a few times when you take it off the bed
  • There are 4 joints that are purposely slightly tighter than the others - this ensures you can get the toy back to its starting position more easily, making it even more satisfying!

Also - try my other Fidget toys!

This brought a tear to my eye. I've 2 autistic kids with school anxiety issues so I feel you! And thanks for the boost. Also take a look at my latest fidget that's like this but a tube rather than square...

I printed this in a tri-color silk and also Bambu Lab gold PLA (non-silk). The biggest issue was some of the hinges didn't print very well likely because there was no support under them. Not sure there is anything that can be done about that so I am not dinging the model. I used 3 walls, inner/outer/inner, and crosshatch infill. Other than the hinges, they came out pretty awesome. This is one of those models that makes me glad I got into 3D printing. It is awesome and I really appreciate it.

thanks for the kind comments. I think those bad hinges are actually bad need adhesion on the first layer for those hinges. maybe try 5 or 10 C higher on the bed.

Ignore the gold one for a minute and look at the tri-color silk print. You can see the bottom of the hinges that touched the plate. They are almost perfect. But then in the next photo you will see some hinges that look gnarly, those are the ones from further up in the print. I do agree the 3 hinges on the bottom of the gold print are an issue, but there are other hinges inside the print like the tri-color silk that are a problem. I have to believe it's because there are no supports under them further up inside the print.

Yup, I see and and agree. that's a limitation of this kind of print in place joint for sure. I could reduce the clearance but that would make those joints bind up for some people which I didn't think was worth it for the marginal cosmetic gain. ☺️

came out REALLY well! love this! only feedback is I would love a version where all the tolerances are loose, feels like it might break every time I want to bend those couple of hinges that are a bit tighter. having those loose would make this just a bit more fun to play with! ps: what filament is that in the GIF??

Now you've been playing with it a while do you still find those joints too tight? they are purposely tighter than the others which makes it far easier to get back to the starting position which I find makes it all the more satisfying to play with. While they are tighter I don't think there is any danger of them breaking... It's lovely filament isn't it! It's Sunlu tri-color silk.

I’ve for sure got them a little looser now! I had to bend each of the four quite a few times to get it a bit more fluid. idk if you’ve seen it, there’s another version of this that’s flat, and instead of having hinges, it has just a single layer that bends and folds. I love how fluid that one is! however, using the single foldable layer as a hinge, it eventually tears. love the durability and thickness of this design, and would love the fluidness of the other one if it’s not crazy hard or anything up upload a second one without the tighter four hinges :)

I have to try this on my U1. Right now I'm printing on my Kobra 3 but using one filament of two colors. I'll post it as soon as it's done

second try, again OFFICIAL bambu basic pla and a1 mini, and it just broke again. please stop uploading terrible designs that just break immiedtaly. if you don't understand 3d printing then don't try to upload terrible profiles with irresponsible infill and no walls.

I don't know what your on about, you must not know what your doing as me and everyone else has had great prints. I print with geeetech pla fillament on sport and they come out perfect. please don't comment asking great designers to take down their awesome designs that work for everyone apart from you.

This is getting reported for sure lol 😂 And i swear you comment these rude comments on every single fidget toy I see on makerworld, maybe that is just ur printer. Calibrate your filament and at least give a 3 star.

Why you so mean bro it worked for everyone but you. By the way, you don't need to tell people to stop uploading because your printer doesn't work and you don't like the design. Like its annoying that some people (kinda like you) are telling people what they cant do in this world like, bro it gits on my nerves😑. STOP.

I have printed the cube but it didn’t work well. I have moved the pieces gently and they didn’t move at all. when introducing more force it ended up broken to 3 pieces. Printed with Bambulab PLA. Used the profile as defined. It is the first print up to now which I was not able to print well.

looks like you have not used my profile? there's zero infill in that print which is not going to help - also have no idea what else has been changed in that profile. try again with the designer's profile.

Hi, I have used the profile that was given as an option when downloading the model, with 70% Scale, 0.2mm layer, 2 walls, 0% infill.

yes - that's not one of my ones. always look for the profiles marked as being done by the designer as they know their design better than others who upload profiles. The one you choose had no infill which would definitely make the part weak and it's expect make the joints very unreliable too as the infill is needed for the bottom of the top joints to rest on.

getting annoyed of this print. first time broke in four spot. printed it again but bigger as in the comments people were saying the bigger one is better. turns out there's an issue with the design. the 4 center hinges faces up the edges of the blocks aren't beveled like the rest of the figure
