Description

I recently decided to go down the route of printed terrain for dnd. I tried Devon Jones's Openforge models, true tiles, and fat dragon games terrain. These were all free models. Openforge and true tiles through thingiverse and Fat dragon games through their website. After printing a good bit of each out I decided I really liked how easy it was to print and assemble true tiles but wanted a bit more detail to make the dnd scene alittle more realistic. Openforge and fat dragon games tiles were going to take alot of plastic and configuration to get a nice base set where I could make a house or a tavern or acouple of houses.

So this started my journey to try and remix Openforge tiles and try and get them to be easy to use like Truetiles while also saving on plastic. So heres what I did to the Devon Jones files.

First I started with his floors. the tile size was too small for most minis to be on them without spilling into another square especially by a wall. So I cut a 4x4 floor tile down to a 2x2 floor tile and then I scaled it in the X and Y to match the size of the TrueTiles squares which I believe are 1.25in X1.25in sqaures. So once that was done I then started to manipulate the walls. I picked a basic wall and a window wall from Openforge. I scaled in the X and Y to match up with the the floor tiles I created. So it took it from almost 11mm thick walls down to 6mm thick walls. Saving plastic and time when printing. All of this was done in Bambu studio. I then took those into blender and booleaned the walls and the floors together making a basic 2x2 wall and a corner wall. Once those were complete I made a door that clips over the full length of the wall like TrueTiles has.

I plan on doing some more different kind of walls and adding a roof.

If you like these models you may want to check out Openforge and Truetiles. They both are great but I was just trying to make something simple for my home sessions with my kids. Below are the links to openforge and truetiles if you want to try them yourself.

My remixed files I have left this bare bones. Basically its enough to create basic houses. They use the exact clips from Truetiles to clip them together. Its not complicated and they stick pretty well together.

I reccomend starting by printing 4 corners and 4 clips and a door. This will get you a small house its easy and relatively quick to print.

I have created some cool quick dungeon tiles. You can find them here.
