Description

This is an ultra-realistic model/dummy of the U.S. M18 Smoke grenade with M201A1 fuse. It is dimensionally accurate to the point that any piece of this model can be interchanged with the corresponding part on the real grenade. I needed a realistic dummy smoke grenade for a project I'm working on, and figured the finished project would be good for cosplay, airsoft, etc.

There is a large empty space within the grenade body that can be filled with sand to weight the grenade to the correct weight of 19oz. The spoon is slightly thicker than the actual spoon in order to make it printable, however, the difference is almost unnoticeable even next to the real thing. The spoon, pin, and ring are extremely thin, and will break easily if handled roughly. If you are planning on using this for anything other than a display piece, I would recommend printing those pieces separately in PETG, ABS, or ASA. If you have a real dummy smoke grenade, the spoon, pin, and ring from that will work with this model and be much more durable.

Due to the real grenade's design, the upper lip of the printed grenade body tends to crack when thrown or dropped multiple times. I may upload a redesigned body that eliminates this issue at the cost of some realism if the demand exists.

This is an excellent replica that could easily fool someone with access to the real deal. That being said, if you plan on using this for cosplay or otherwise taking it out in public, the risk exists that it could be mistaken for a real explosive, which could be bad for a multitude of reasons. Do this at your own risk, I accept zero liability for your decisions. To reduce this risk, I recommend printing the grenade body in blue, as this is the universal color for a dummy or inert munition. As a replica, the M18 smoke body is OD green with white markings, with the top of the grenade painted in the color of the smoke (white, yellow, red, violet, or green), with the rest of the pieces in solid OD green.

The fuse can be verified as inert without removing the pin or spoon by looking through the large hole in either side to verify that a striker assembly is not present.

If you like this model, I'd appreciate a like! I'm currently working on other grenade models, which should be coming soon!
