This model represents a detailed miniature of a Swiss Guard

The Pontifical Swiss Guard is one of the oldest military corps still active in the world.

Origins

• Founded in 1506 by Pope Julius II
• Recruited from Swiss mercenaries, renowned for their discipline and military skill
• Considered among the best soldiers of the Renaissance

 Historical Role

• Personal defense of the Pope
• Participation in crucial historical events, such as the Sack of Rome in 1527, where they sacrificed their lives to protect the pontiff

 Iconic Uniform

• The colors yellow, blue, and red evoke the Medici family
• Renaissance design, often (erroneously) attributed to Michelangelo
• Traditional equipment: halberd, sword, and light armor

 Today

• Corps still active in the Vatican City State
• Ceremonial and security functions
• Symbol of fidelity, tradition, and historical continuity.
