🦋 Butterfly Wing Folding Fan

A fully retractable hand fan with a butterfly-wing blade pattern that fans out into a full butterfly-wing spread. Snaps open with a satisfying flick, folds back down to a slim wand. Designed so you can alternate blade colors for a stained-glass / gradient effect — print each blade in a different filament, or run it multicolor on an AMS.

✨ Why you'll love it

  • Smooth open/close retract action
  • Editable alternating-color design — make it monochrome, gradient, or full rainbow
  • Translucent filament + the vein pattern gives a real stained-glass look when backlit
  • Great as a cosplay/fairy prop, dance/rave fan, desk display piece, or gift

🎨 Color options
Swap colors per blade in the slicer's paint tool (or by object) to get the alternating effect. Use “height range” in paint settings to differentiate the wing's lines from the base color. Printing each plate in different colors will result in the ability to alternate blade colors.

🖨️ Print settings

  • Filament: only PLA tested
  • I lower initial layer speed down to 25 mm/s to increase adhesion. Also make sure your build plate is clean to help with adhesion.

🔩 Assembly
Plate 1 includes (1) starter blade and (4) of the same type blades. Plate 2 includes (4) complementary blades and (1) finisher blade. There are 4 different types of blades, (1) starter, (1) finisher, (4) type 1, and (4) type 2. To assemble, hold the starter blade vertically and the complementary blade at a 90 degree angle to the starter. This will allow the button to enter the slot and when rotated will lock it in. It may be a bit stiff at first but carefully work it back and forth and it will loosen up over time. Continue this process with each complementary blade to the prior. Plate 1 includes a locking pin for holding all the fan blades together.
