Description

The Tomato System – Storm Edition

The original Tomato System exceeded all expectations and quickly became one of my most popular gardening designs. It proved that a modular, stackable support system could be easy to print, easy to expand, and adaptable to a wide range of plants.

As more growers began using it, one piece of feedback appeared consistently:

“Can it be made even stronger?”

The Tomato System – Storm Edition is the result.

Rather than simply reinforcing the original design, I went back to the drawing board and rethought how the entire structure is assembled. The goal was simple: create a version that is noticeably more rigid, more stable, and better suited for demanding outdoor conditions while maintaining the flexibility that made the original system so popular.

A Stronger Approach

The biggest change is found in the way the system is assembled.

Unlike the original Tomato System, which used push-fit vertical posts and external locking clips, the Storm Edition uses threaded vertical posts that screw directly into each support level. This creates a much stronger mechanical connection between sections and significantly increases the overall rigidity of the structure.

The threaded design also introduces a unique advantage. New levels can be added without loosening or affecting the sections below. As your plant grows throughout the season, the support structure can grow with it—one level at a time.

Cleaner Assembly, Fewer Parts

Because each level is securely connected using threaded posts, the side locking clips used by the original design are no longer necessary.

The result is a cleaner appearance, fewer loose components, and a more streamlined assembly process. Simply connect the sections using the supplied posts and continue building upward as needed.

Designed Around Plant Growth

Every plant grows differently, which is why the Storm Edition includes two lengths of vertical posts.

Long posts allow for larger spacing between support levels, while short posts can be used when additional support is needed around fruit-heavy branches or dense growth. By mixing the two lengths, you can fine-tune the structure to suit the shape and growth pattern of your individual plant.

Built for the Outdoors

For gardeners growing directly in soil, the Storm Edition includes optional Soil Anchors.

These pointed attachments screw onto the bottom of the vertical posts and help the structure penetrate the ground more easily. They also provide a more secure footing in loose soil, improving stability and helping the system remain firmly planted even in challenging weather conditions.

The “Storm Edition” name wasn’t chosen by accident.

Not Just for Garden Beds

One of the most requested additions was support for existing potted plants.

To solve this, the Storm Edition includes an optional Flat Base accessory that allows the system to be used on patios, balconies, greenhouses, windowsills, and other flat surfaces. Simply place the pot inside the base and build the support structure around it.

This makes the system just as useful for container gardening as it is for traditional garden beds.

The Next Evolution

The original Tomato System remains available and continues to be a fantastic option for many growers.

However, if you’re looking for the strongest, most versatile, and most refined version of the concept, the Storm Edition represents the next step in its evolution:

  • Stronger connections.
  • Greater stability.
  • More flexibility.
  • Better support for growing plants.

And just like the original, it’s designed to be easy to print, easy to expand, and built to grow alongside your harvest.

🍅 Happy growing!
