Description

This lithophane depicts Rostam (رستم), the legendary hero of Persian mythology as portrayed in the Shahnameh (Book of Kings) by the poet Ferdowsi. The digital sculpture render used as the source image was created by ADCUBE / Abbasemadi.com and features Rostam in his iconic tiger-pelt helmet (babr-e bayan), ornate armour with lion motifs, and a companion lion — symbols of his divine strength and courage.

A lithophane is a three-dimensional translucent panel that reveals a detailed image when backlit. Dark regions of the source image correspond to thicker areas of the panel (more opaque), while bright regions correspond to thinner areas (more transparent). When placed in front of a light source, the variation in thickness recreates the tonal depth of the original image.
