BOY WITH THORN

Welcome to a collection that's a little absurd, a little adorable, and, I hope, quite fun.

The idea for this project was born from a very simple question:

What if some of the most famous sculptures in art history had featured platypuses?

The result is this series of figures inspired by universally recognizable classic works, reinterpreted as small chibi platypuses, maintaining the essence and pose of the original work, but adapted to more cartoonish, charming, and 3D printable proportions.

The Boy with Thorn, Spinario or Fedele is a Hellenistic bronze statue, dated around the 1st century BC, exhibited in the Capitoline Museums in Rome. It depicts a boy sitting and removing a thorn from the sole of his left foot.

What makes this collection special?

My goal was not simply to put a platypus head on a human statue.

Each model has been redesigned so that:

• The original work is immediately recognizable.

• It maintains proportions close to those of a real platypus.

• It has a chibi and collectible style.

• It is FDM printable without unnecessary complications.

• It works well in both small and display sizes.

I tried to move away from the typical "human body with an animal head" to create figures that truly look like platypuses interpreting great works of classical art.

Designed for FDM printing

All models have been designed with the following in mind:

• Easy printing.

• Stability on the base.

• Minimal use of supports when possible.

• Details large enough to be preserved even at reduced sizes.

• Good results with standard PLA and especially with PLA Marble.

The promotional photos are inspired by actual prints made with PLA Marble, a material that combines especially well with the theme of classical sculptures.

A growing collection

This collection has just begun.

Art history is full of incredible sculptures, and my intention is to continue expanding this collection with new additions whenever the community shows interest.

Among potential future additions, other classic works could appear reinterpreted under the same philosophy:
