Description
My garden has become infested with pillbugs (roly-polies) and I needed to get them under control. After doing some research and failing to get diatomaceous earth to bring them under control, I decided to make some beer traps. After one night, it looks like these are going to work great! I can finally get these pillbugs to stop eating my flowers and vegetable plants.
Pretty simple to use, press the base down into the dirt until the lip is flush with the ground. Push some dirt around the edges if needed so that the pests you're targeting can easily crawl in. Fill the base with about a ½" of beer, just about any kind will work. Darker, yeastier beers may work better. I used Pacifico, some for the traps and some for me! Place the insert into the base and add the top, that's about it.
Filament color doesn't matter, pillbugs are nearly blind and search out damp, dark spaces. Place near your plants and the edges of the garden. The pillbugs will fall in and be unable to escape. The base where the beer is contained is 5 walls, so it won't leak. PETG or ASA will probably work best if you plant to use these for multiple seasons, I just wanted to use up some older PLA and will reprint next season if needed.
