Description

Modular 3D Printed Tower Crane

Overview

This project is a fully functional modular tower crane designed from scratch in SolidWorks and optimized for additive manufacturing.

The goal was not only to create a realistic crane model but also to make it easy to print, assemble, customize, and expand. Every component was carefully designed with 3D printing in mind, allowing makers to build their own tower crane using commonly available printers and materials.

A complete step-by-step assembly manual is included to guide users through the entire build process.

Features

✅ Fully modular design

✅ Functional trolley system

✅ Functional hoist system

✅ Adjustable hook height

✅ Movable trolley along the boom

✅ Expandable tower height

✅ Extendable boom length

✅ Printable on standard desktop 3D printers

✅ Detailed assembly instructions

Modular Design

One of the main design goals was flexibility.

Additional tower sections can be printed to increase the crane height.

Additional boom sections can be printed to extend the crane reach.

This allows users to create their own crane configuration depending on available space and project requirements.

Build it as big as you want.

Functional Systems

Hoist System

The crane includes a functional winch mechanism that allows the hook to be raised and lowered.

Trolley System

A dual-line trolley system allows the trolley to move smoothly along the boom.

Tower Bracing

The tower can be stabilized using tension lines and adjustable turnbuckles for improved rigidity.

Counterweight System

The counterweight compartment can be filled with dry sand to increase stability and improve crane performance.

Assembly

The model was designed for straightforward assembly.

A complete illustrated assembly guide is included, showing every step required to build the crane.

Assembly instructions cover:

  • Base assembly
  • Tower assembly
  • Rotating platform
  • Boom assembly
  • Counter jib assembly
  • Winch installation
  • Line routing
  • Tower bracing
  • Final setup
