Description

Smash!

If you like my models, please like, share, download, boost, rate and all the amazing good stuff!

Most Dice Towers are awesome additions to your board game experience. But it doesn't make rolling the dice any easier. If anything, it makes it more fun but also slightly more inconvenient.

Smash! resolves this by having an auto reload functionality. Just smash the top and the dice are automatically rerolled for you. You can still drop them in from the top or change them out. But then, just Smash!

The dice tower should handle any dice up to a diagonal/diameter of 30mm.

There is a printable spring included in the print file, but due to creep this spring can fatigue over time and not lift the top of the dice tower up again (but can easily be replaced). It is therefore advised to use an 80*8mm spring (not yet tested because of Bambu shipping mess, but it should work).

If you go the printable spring route, it works better if you lube the coils of the spring and the bottom of the top part (ptfe/silicone) to reduce friction. Depending on the filament used you might need to swap it out once in a while, or upgrade to the coil springs mentioned above.

Just drop the coil springs (or slide the printed spring) in place and slide the top part of he tower down. It will click in place and if you use the printed spring you might need to nudge the top backwards. If you ever want to take the castle apart again, there are two holes in de side through which you can unlock the clips that keep the castle together.

If the bridge doesn't come down by itself you might need to work the hinges a bit before it becomes a smooth action. If that still didn't help, use a bit of lube on the hinges. If the top parts has issues reach the bottom, lube like described above and make sure the spring is pushed all the way into the slot. If you are not using the provided print profile, make sure to disable supports, whatever Bambu Studio tries to tell you.

V2 improvements:

Stiffer, longer lasting, spring

Easier removal of printed spring

Tiled pattern on the stairs

Better Maze (reduced chance of dice jumping out when using the top)

V3 improvements:
Made tab connection bigger with a fillet
Added an M3 grub screw hole above the stairs as backup if your tabs break
Added thickness to the bottom prevents spring from protruding and makes the terrace a bit heavier

Other than that, just Smash! it and have fun!

Happy Printing!

- Rossero

Amazing! Printed perfectly. Don't have any springs but the provided ones you can print work well :) make sure to follow instructions. Printed with Overture PLA CF

Haha yes, instructions! But I also never read those so I can't fault anyone. Thanks a lot for the first completed make, looking great! And thanks for the boost 😁

And @marioshrooms the springs do work indeed, but the printed springs may deform over time because it is also under tension in its resting state. I'm not sure when, or if they need replacement at all. But steel ones keep tension over time! Even though mine aren't shipped after I ordered them more than two weeks ago, so I also don't have steel springs

printed with no supports?

Hey, we printed your design on our Creality K1 but have problems to place the spring in the right position. How do you need to place it? Large arm down or small and needs the spring to go into the whole? We have either the problem that the spring is coming out of the bottom part and then the tower is wobbeling or that the tower does not lower all the way down. What are we doing wrong?

Just like in the photo. You do the small part down and then push it forward in the slot under the stairs. Take a good look at photo 2 and see where the spring is placed. You have to push it all the way in. Lubricating the spring will help as well

Mhhh we tried that but that does not help. The spring jumps out all the time or gets stuck. The Photo is not that helpful for us either because we cannot make out what you did in step 2. We tried every angle and every possible Position but the Tower cannot be pushed to the ground for the floor to get lifted up :( Please Help.

Just slide it in the slot and push it all the way forward So in the photo's below: 1. Line it up with the slot 2. Push it in the slot 3. Push it all the way forward

Hi there, having recently got my P1S + AMS this is the first longer print I am looking to give ago as it looks epic ! I keep getting a warning in the Bambu slicer though, will this be okay or does it need tweaking ?

Just ignore it. It is designed to be printed without supports but the ceiling has long bridging which studio is a bit afraid of. Good luck!

Thanks for the boost and it looks great! What do you mean with sellable? I have a patreon for people who want to sell prints of my designs. Have fun with the tower!

Amazing print! I uploaded my profiles with settings. The holes for pushing the clips for disassembly are clutch! The spring is definitely best in PETG.

Love your design. Unfortunately I broke off the mechanism holding the tower in place. Any advice to fixing this without reprinting the tower part again?

It should still work with one of them, so you are good to go I think. What happened though? It shouldn't move that much that it can snap. Still loving the filament you used!

User error. I was impatient and brute forced it off instead of reading the instructions. Unfortunately both are gone. I will just reprint it.

Thanks for the clarification! If you do complete the tower, you are welcome to post the end result as well since right now the only photo of a make is a broken one 😅. I also never read the instruction, so I can't really blame you. I'll make a disassembly photo ASAP. Either way, thanks for the boost! Edit: I have added a disassembly photo 👍

Printed in a ziro tricolour (shown) and esun rainbow silk (in the background) and used the Bambu springs described. First filament word great, however the silk doesn't drop after smashing. The joint is too stiff. Filed it a bit and got it working.. but I'd still avoid doing any more in silk. I anticipate printing more of these. Ideally someone would figure out a spring I can order off amazon

Thanks for the boost! Silk is very brittle as well, so if you smash it too hard it can break. But why would you print so many dice towers? 😅

Going to license them and take them to a craft market. Just something I'm doing for fun

I printed in marble PLA on P1S using the V3 default profile. Sadly it does not drop down for me too. I tried filing around the hinge and lubricating but did not help.

Yes, place the tower in the right orientation and you won't see it :) Happy gaming!

I mean that’s fine lol, but I’m planning to print a lot so just thought I’d ask. I’ll be on your patreon later in the month 😅

Thanks! Some users use support to clean up the bridging part but it is designed to be out of sight too not need supports. I guess that it might look cleaner if you plan to sell them but my personal opinion (and design philosophy) is that support is unnecessary waste. Either way is fine but make sure there is no support in the spring slot or other hard to reach places
