Principle explanation

Unlike the insecticidal methods of electric mosquito coils (which are relatively more toxic, though the toxicity of commercially compliant products is still within safe limits), common and effective mosquito repellent ingredients include DEET, IR3535, Picaridin, lemon eucalyptus oil, citronella oil, and so on

Natural alternatives are not as effective and can be more irritating or even more toxic (yes, you can research the specifics yourselves). Considering overall safety, cost-effectiveness, and efficacy, DEET is the best

However, high concentrations of mosquito repellent ingredients can be irritating to the skin or damage clothes and fabrics

Therefore, a mosquito repellent box was created, portable and without direct body contact, to prevent irritation (for example, DEET's safe concentration in China is within 15%, globally it's within 30%, and its solubility for organic substances is greater than that of ethanol/alcohol)

Solution compatibility description

This solution can accommodate high-concentration mosquito repellent liquid

Or if sweating too much causes sprayed mosquito repellent to quickly become ineffective (sweat can cover or even wash away the repellent, affecting its release)

Tested several times, the effect is excellent. Mosquitoes even get dizzy upon flying near, watching them zigzag towards the sun (the sun is too dazzling to see them anymore)

The longest test duration was 2 hours, using 99% DEET as the tested ingredient, with a dosage of less than 1mL (three pumps). The test environment was a heavily vegetated area with water (tested during an evening stroll before and after dinner, precisely when mosquitoes were rampant)

Further long-term outdoor challenges will be conducted

Recommended printing materials: PA or PP, PETG is generally usable

Mosquito repellent ingredients like DEET are moderately polar solvents, unfriendly to PLA, ABS, and ASA, and will cause noticeable swelling issues

PETG is slightly better but may still exhibit slight dissolution and stickiness

In addition to printing, some accessories are required, which are listed below

A portion of mosquito repellent liquid, a small piece of cloth or even a tissue; a spray bottle or a roller bottle for lotion

1. Liquid mosquito repellent ingredients (I personally use DEET, it's effective)

2. The cloth is best made of cotton or nylon (but you can just throw it away once it's worn out), or a small cotton-filled cloth bag (degreasing cotton is not necessary, it doesn't matter), used for absorbing the mosquito repellent liquid

3. A spray bottle or a roller bottle for lotion (a tube-less vacuum bottle is recommended, mine has a 5mL capacity, and after several uses, more than 3mL remain; the bottle body material is ideally PP, which is common. Spray bottles are suitable for safe concentration mosquito repellent, roller bottles are suitable for high-concentration mosquito repellent ingredients), or a dropper made of PP or other corrosion-resistant plastic can also be used

How to use: Print the model suitable for your configuration, place paper or cloth into the base, spray a generous amount of safe-concentration mosquito repellent onto the paper or cloth, or apply high-concentration mosquito repellent using a roller bottle onto the cloth (1-3 squeezes should last at least 2 hours, the theoretical duration is 8 hours of mosquito repellency per 1mL of DEET)

Close your bottle cap, and screw on your mosquito repellent box lid

Then just use it. When the effectiveness is about to expire, remember to refill the liquid (or add more at once, but don't let it overflow or spill)

If you have purchased high-concentration mosquito repellent ingredients, please refer to the safety instructions provided with the product

If high-concentration mosquito repellent ingredients are used and accidentally come into contact with skin, rinse thoroughly as soon as possible to reduce or even avoid irritation (DEET itself is a moderately polar solvent and is water-soluble)

If you have purchased high-concentration DEET and have children at home, especially infants under 2 months old, please do not let them come into contact with it

It might cause them to cry in pain, and its toxicity is twice that of ethanol/alcohol at the same concentration

Other ingredients, natural ones generally should not come into contact with infants under 6 months old, artificial ones are safer but generally also should not come into contact with infants under 2 months old

When using this mosquito repellent box, please also keep it away from infants. For them, frequent inhalation of something twice as toxic as ethanol/alcohol is not good either

PS: If you have OCD and don't want to use PP or PA filament, you can apply corrosion-resistant tape of 3.5cm width or more inside the base, such as PI tape or waterproof PTFE tape

Introduction to using the fabric pouch accessory kit

Designed for aesthetics and for those with poor sewing skills (like me), it requires fabric and cotton fiber

1. Use the hex base/caliper to clamp the fabric, then trim the fabric to be the same size as or slightly larger than the base

2. Twist and gently pry the clasp to separate its inner and outer rings

3. Use needle and thread to sew the six corners of the cut hexagonal fabric onto the 6 holes on the inner ring of the clasp (preferably evenly distributed for aesthetic appeal, see figure below)

4. Stuff in cotton, not too much and not too little, at most it should be fluffy cotton the size of half an egg

5. Pass the needle and thread through the remaining 6 holes on the inner ring of the clasp and sew the edges to close the opening

6. Put on the outer ring of the clasp (it's a C-shaped clasp with holes)

7. If your fabric pouch is noticeably higher than the mosquito repellent box base after being inserted, you can use the holes in the inner and outer rings to further tighten the pouch with needle and thread

PS: I noticed that the strength of the honeycomb mesh surface is indeed ordinary and not suitable for strong pressing. However, this mesh surface should not be pressed in the first place, and its strength is decent when covered, so I didn't change it
