Description

Boost Me (for free)

If this drain plug solves a problem for you, please consider giving it a Boost! 🚀 I spent quite a bit of time dialing in the fit, sealing diameter, and support strategy to get a clean sealing surface and reliable performance in TPU. Your Boost helps support future designs, testing, and free model releases. Thanks for checking it out!

DRAINLOK TPU Drain Plug

This TPU bathtub drain plug was designed to create a snug, watertight seal in a standard bathtub drain while remaining easy to install and remove.

The sealing section is designed around a 42.2 mm diameter, which provides a tight compression fit in my drain. Because drain dimensions vary between manufacturers, you may need to scale the model slightly for your specific application.

The large flange helps prevent the plug from falling into the drain while also providing a broad sealing surface.

Print Strategy

This model was printed in TPU with a full PLA support tower using Normal Snug Supports.

While tree supports use less material, they do not provide a consistent support interface under the large flat sealing flange. The continuous support tower creates a much cleaner supported surface, which is important because that surface directly affects how well the plug seals against the drain.

Printing the support tower in PLA also reduces TPU consumption and improves support removal.

Faster Printing Option

If you prefer a faster print, the support tower can be printed using the same TPU as the model.

However:

  • TPU supports consume more TPU material, which is typically more expensive than PLA.
  • TPU-to-TPU support interfaces can be more difficult to remove cleanly.
  • Tree supports reduce material usage but may leave a less consistent surface finish under the sealing flange.
  • A rougher support interface can affect the final seal quality.

For the cleanest sealing surface, I recommend using a PLA support tower with Normal Snug Supports.

Recommended Material

  • TPU (recommended)
  • Shore hardness may be adjusted to suit your preference
  • Softer TPU generally improves sealing performance

Dimensions

  • Sealing Diameter: 42.2 mm
  • Application: Standard bathtub drain
  • Scale as needed to match your drain opening

If you print one, I’d love to see your results and hear what scaling worked best for your drain.
