Update: added a snap on cover as a print profile

Embark on a lunar mission right from your desk! This unique, fully 3D printable 91 piece puzzle features a highly detailed, textured surface that brings the craters and topography of the moon to life. It is not just a jigsaw puzzle; it is a tactile, topographical model of the lunar landscape where the challenge lies in the unique shapes and the intricate details of the craters.

To make assembling and displaying your masterpiece even better, a custom frame is included with this model.

Print Profiles Included

Both print profiles are neatly organized across two build plates. Plate 1 contains the puzzle pieces, and Plate 2 contains the frame.

  • 0.12mm Layer Height (High Detail): Highly recommended for the best results. This profile beautifully captures the finest topographical lines, ridges, and the subtle depths of the craters for a stunningly realistic finish.
  • 0.16mm Layer Height (Balanced Speed): Optimized for a faster print time while still maintaining a great balance of surface detail. Perfect if you want to get the puzzle off the build plate and start playing sooner.
  • A1 Mini versions: Pieces pread out to make them fit on the plate, does not include frame because it does not fit the bed size
  • Snap on Cover: A snap on cover that fits perfectly on the puzzle + frame and keeps everything together. The snap on cover has three text options.

Printing Recommendations

  • Clean Print Bed (Crucial): It is highly important to start with a perfectly clean print bed. This ensures the first layer of all the individual puzzle pieces adheres perfectly and prevents any warping or shifting during the print.
  • Material: Standard PLA or Matte PLA works wonderfully.
  • Colors: For the best and most authentic lunar aesthetic, I highly recommend using PLA Matte Ash Gray, PLA Matte Ivory White, or PLA Basic Gray for the puzzle pieces (Plate 1). For the frame (Plate 2), a contrasting color like black works perfectly to make the moon pop!
  • Supports: 100% support-free. All pieces and the frame are designed to print flat on the build plate.
  • Infill: 10-15% is sufficient for a sturdy feel without wasting filament.

Important Note for First Use: Due to the tight tolerances required for a satisfying, seamless fit, taking the puzzle pieces apart for the very first time right off the build plate might be a bit difficult. Don't worry—they will loosen up just the right amount after the first separation, making subsequent puzzling a smooth and enjoyable experience!

Printed two, with the frame, at recommended settings and it came out perfectly! Giving one to my puzzle loving parents and the other to my space loving son.

This came out so amazing! The pieces have some weight to them, come apart with no effort yet fit snugly. By far the best puzzle I’ve ever owned. Planning on gifting a few of these. I’m printing the base plate now for the final ‘piece’. Absolutely love this!

Looks great! What filament is that?

The filament is Protopasta HTPLA Gradient Gray. The color change from light to dark and back only happened twice, but came out so perfectly. Got lucky there.

As a puzzle person, I really enjoyed printing and doing this actually 3D puzzle. I used Bambu Light Grey and Silver PLAs to produce two versions. I made the bottom side three levels of charcoal black before the moon color. Fit is very tight; sometimes you have to reconnect pieces from underneath .

Nice! How did you make the bottom of it black? This is how I want to do it too

In the slicer, set the initial color of the Moon to charcoal; then at layer 4 introduce a filament change to your Moon Color.

Beautiful puzzle, by mistake I printed the lid in gold when I wanted to use bronze like the bottom lid the moon in silver all Bambulab basic PLA. The box closes so well that I am afraid of breaking it when I open it. I would suggest a screw-type box if possible

Printed at 125%, which is max bed size on P2S. It came out amazing, but this is a really hard puzzle to put together!
