THE MODEL :

Inject a dose of dark romance and alchemical mystery into your workspace with this striking desk sculpture. This intricate design features a realistically detailed rat standing proudly atop a human skull wrapped in dense Baroque scrollwork and thorny vines. Evoking the moody atmosphere of mad scientist laboratories, forgotten libraries, and Gothic horror tales, this three-dimensional centerpiece captures a powerful, dynamic still-life scene. The rich fur texture of the rodent creates a beautiful contrast against the chiseled bone and deep eye sockets, making it a captivating visual anchor for any room.

Tested Print Settings (Recommendations): The complex organic shapes and fine structural lines of this piece were successfully verified using matte black PLA.

  • Infill: Set at 5% for the display preview. Stability Advice: Since the rat shifts some weight towards the upper half, an infill of 15-20% (or adding extra base layers in your slicer) is recommended to give the figurine a solid center of gravity so it sits securely on your desk.
  • Nozzle: 0.4 mm
  • Supports: Tree supports are highly recommended beneath the skull's jawline, the rat's underbelly, and its overhanging tail for clean finish lines.

Sizing Information: The model is scaled perfectly to sit next to your computer setup or on top of a stack of vintage books. Please feel free to freely resize the model based on your desired use inside your slicing software—downscale it to create a unique cane topper or upscale it into an imposing library focal piece.

INFORMATION:

A common question is: why do these prints require supports when they could be printed lying flat?

For my designs, I deliberately choose to print them standing upright rather than flat, in order to achieve the best possible level of detail. I prioritize visual quality over saving a few grams of filament.

Of course, you are free to change the print orientation in your slicer if you prefer.
