Boost Me (for free)

it simple. you want model. I want make model. you boost. I make you more model.

Edit* please note that my default profile is working well but the supports can be hard to remove. Others have added print profiles that may work better. Or if you have a preference for how you like supports, make those edits before you print.

I had so much trouble with supports (brown one.. removed with hair dryer help) that I split it in half the next time and it printed perfect with almost no supports. There is a seam now but that could be filled pretty easy. Also, print time went WAY down when split up as it didn't need so many supports.

Thanks for this remix, I'm just about done printing it. Did you have any issues with the model warping off the plate towards the end of the print?

I didn't. I don't have a lot of warping overall honestly. You will want to fill the little gap line though I'm sure.

I printed mine in a single color, using Elegoo Matte PLA Beige, then painted / stained. It printed well, and I love the way it came out!

how did you paint it? Especially the skulls, how exactly did you stain it?

Replying to @davlog :
I used Gel stain... with a mainly dry brush. The Gel stain I used was DecoArt Americana brand. The red paint is Fantastory acrylic paint.

These settings worked great! I only wish I'd used variable layer height at the top of the apple so that came out better, but it worked out overall.

I'll also mention that these settings worked well. Thanks for the tip.

Gorgeous model. I didn't want supports, so I sliced it in half. I played with the angle of the slice for a long time, trying to work it through all the skulls in a way that didn't cut teeth in half. I was going to use Plastruct Plastic Weld, but I couldn't get past a couple of strokes of the brush without it drying right out, so I switched to the only other thing I had on hand, which I thought wouldn't work, but worked great: Clear Elmer's Glue. I turned off elephant's foot compensation, but still had a thin line around the join, so I used needle files to smooth out the joint and fill it in with the dust it created. Then I picked up some more FolkArt colors, looked up some apple and rotting apple reference, and spent a couple of days painting. I brushed DecoArt Americana Triple Thick Brilliant Brush On Gloss Glaze (what a name!) on the red apple skin after it was painted to give it a bit more juiciness. Not sure I love that, but I think it added a little something.
