Description

A large and ambitious hinged WORBY remix inspired by the original modular system designed by Scott Yu-Jan, adapted to my personal use case: hiding the electrical breaker panel of my home while also creating a practical entryway organizer.

Since electrical panels tend to follow fairly standard dimensions, this design may also fit many other installations with minimal adaptation.

The project combines functionality and decoration using a Mondrian-inspired layout, while remaining fully compatible with the original WORBY ecosystem.

Project Structure

This model is composed of multiple groups of parts:

A) Hinged Wall Frame

The frame is designed to be screwed directly to the wall and includes fully integrated print-in-place hinges.

Frame components:

  • HINGE-TOP
  • HINGE-BOT
  • WALL-FRAME-TOP
    Upper fixed wall frame
  • WALL-FRAME-BOT
    Lower fixed wall frame
  • GRID-FRAME-TOP
Upper moving frame for the grids
  • GRID-FRAME-BOT
Lower moving frame for the grids
  • FRAME-LINK-1 (4 units)
Connectors between hinges and frame sections
  • FRAME-LINK-2 (1 units)
Vertical connectors for fixed and moving frames
  • FRAME-LINK-3 (1 units)
Vertical connectors for fixed and moving frames
  • FRAME-LINK-4 (1 unit)
Connector between HINGE-TOP and HINGE-BOT on the wall side
  • FRAME-LINK-5 (1 unit)
Connector between HINGE-TOP and HINGE-BOT on the moving side
  • SCREW-ADAPTERS

B) Grid System

The grid consists of six different 3x3 segments, each adapted to its position:

  • LH-TOP
  • RH-TOP
  • LH-MID
  • RH-MID
  • LH-BOT
  • RH-BOT

I modified the original WORBY grids by:

  • Increasing side thickness
  • Increasing depth
  • Adding mounting points to attach the grids to the frame using M3 screws

The panel attachment mechanism itself remains identical to the original WORBY system, so this remix is fully compatible with standard WORBY panels.

The RH-MID grid includes a custom opening without the center beam to provide visibility for a hydrometer.

Additionally, two CENTER-LINK parts reinforce the central area where the grid corners would otherwise remain unsupported.

C) Panels

You can replicate my exact setup, customize it for your own needs, or completely redesign it. I would love to see your own remixes and adaptations.

My version uses a Mondrian-inspired composition combining original WORBY panels with several custom-designed parts:

Custom panels included:

  • 1x1_Pixel_Buds_a
Holder for Google Pixel Buds A-Series (yellow)
  • 1x1_Pixel_Buds_2_Pro
Holder for Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 (blue)
  • 1x1_Hydrometer
Holder for Bambu Lab XF002 hydrometer (black)
  • 1x2_Blank
Smooth vertical blank panel (white, yellow, black)
  • 1x2_Glasses
    Glasses holder (blue)
  • 1x2_Cactus
Small cactus planter compatible with IKEA mini pots (red)
  • 2x1_Double_Hook
Horizontal double hook version of the original hook panel (red)

D) Electrical Panel Cover

The internal cover used to hide the breaker panel itself is printed in two halves, assembled with screws, and finished with four decorative screw caps.

(I printed one cap in each color.)

Printing Information

  • Frame parts (except links) were printed in Black PLA-CF using a 0.6 mm nozzle
  • All remaining parts were printed in PLA Matte using a 0.4 mm nozzle

Important note

Due to the large dimensions of several parts, many components require a Bambu Lab H2 series printer or another printer with a similarly large build volume.

Assembly

Please check the assembly hardware list carefully before starting:

M3x5x4 Round Threaded Brass Heat-Insert Nut (20PCS) - AB012 x68
M4x6x6 Round Threaded Brass Heat-Insert Nut (20PCS) - AB016 x6

M4x16 BHCS Machine Screw (5PCS) - AA067 x4

M4x10 BHCS Machine Screw (10PCS) - AA175 x10

M3x10 SHCS Machine Screw (20PCS) - AA159 x68

Assembly itself is not especially difficult, but the project uses a large number of screws and requires patience and time to complete properly.
