Description
THINK IT – MAKE IT
Retro Maker Sign for 3D Printing
A small project for everyone who turns ideas into real things.
The sign combines a classic retro/vault-inspired style with the theme of 3D printing and maker culture. Perfect for the workshop, print station, office, or maker corner.
The model was designed so that different elements have different heights. This theoretically allows the print to be colored across different height levels (filament changes on specific layers) without requiring an AMS. Of course, the sign also works perfectly fine in a single color.
Features
- Retro-inspired Maker design
- Optimized for multi-color printing via layer heights
- Printable even without AMS
- Clear contours and large surfaces for clean results
- Perfect as wall decor or workshop sign
- Print-friendly design without unnecessarily complicated details
Printing Instructions
- Recommended layer height: 0.2 mm
- Multi-color possible via manual filament change
- Also works perfectly fine in a single color
- Depending on the desired effect, you can experiment with matte or PLA Silk filaments
- A dark base color ensures particularly strong contrasts
Color Idea from the Example
- Dark gray/olive for the background
- Yellow and red for the lettering
- Blue/yellow for the figure
- Light skin tone for the face
- Optional PLA Glow or PLA Silk filaments for accents
Note on Multicolor Printing
The model has been intentionally designed with different height levels. This allows for color changes directly in the slicer on specific layers. If you don't have an automatic material changer, you can still easily change colors manually.
Why This Design?
I like this mix of retro-gaming, maker culture, and workshop aesthetics. The sign should look like a small prop from an alternate future – somewhere between a workshop, retro advertising, and 3D printing nerd culture.
If you print this sign, I'd love to see makes and pictures of your versions. It would be especially exciting to see what color combinations you come up with.
Note:
The sign is scaled to 20cm length and was printed as a test at that size. The details are clearly visible. Unfortunately, I cannot say how much it can be scaled down. I have set the layers for the individual colors at different heights so that you can theoretically color by layer height, thereby reducing material changes. (Example: base=1mm, yellow at 2mm (for printer, lettering, and shirt) 3mm (skin) 4mm (jacket for blue))
Since I don't have other colors available right now, I opted for a single-color test print. However, since all contours are at 4.2mm, filling with colored resin would even be conceivable.
