Description

I hate mosquitos at night … but they love me ^^

I wanted to try something basic, efficient and as natural as possible to avoid chemical repellent.

Fans seem to be a solution, as mosquito is not very good at flighting in the wind, so, I wanted to give it try.

To make it as silent as possible and avoid noisy systems at night, I consider the famous Noctua fans, usually used in PC.

It usually works for 12V, but by powering it with 5V (USB), it turns a bit slower and make less noise.

Plug the fan to the connector adaptor, then to the USB converter with variable PWM power system, and … here you go: a small fan with rotation speed controllable with a potentiometer.

I design a basic box, put M3 brass inserts for the screews. The hexagonal-round-thin grid is small enough to optimize airflow and protecting fingers.

Just orient it appropriately (mine is a bit over my head, creating an airflow barrier to my face), and you will be safe from biters.

Components:

  • Fan: Noctua NF-P12, redux 1700 PWM
  • USB adapter to 4 pins PWM 5V, with on/off and potentiometer
  • 4* M3 Brass inserts
  • 4* M3 screws
  • (and obviously, an USB-power-adpater cable)
