Description

This is a cover to replace the downtubes on the sides of the center console/radio/toggle switches on an R53/R52/R50 Mini Cooper.  This gives slightly more leg room as well as allows for some customization of the interior.

I have these installed in my 05 R53 and they should work in all other 1st gen Minis, but I can't confirm.

Print setting recommendations:

  • PETG or better
  • .16 layer height
  • 2+ walls
  • 10% Gyroid infill
  • No supports required

Most important thing here is the filament type.  Don't use PLA.  This is going in your car, it's going to get hot in there.  2 walls and 10% infill is fine as this isn't a structural part, just a cover for the sides of your center console.

Installation:

  • Remove the downtubes (watch the first 1:30 of this) - Not my video btw

  • Using the same screws that held in the downpipes, attach your 3D printed covers.  Be sure not to over-tighten

I had concerns initially regarding are the stock downtubes helping to support the center console, and couldn't find a definitive answer other than, “doesn't seem like it”… I've had these covers installed in my car for almost 3 years and there is absolutely no sagging of the console.  That being said, by using this print, you take full responsibility for your car.

If you have any questions or issues please let me know!
