Create Your Own Custom String Art 

Welcome to my SVG-based Parametric String Art collection. This is an engine that allows you to generate incredibly complex, 3D-printable string art with zero supports. It uses a mathematical ray-casting pattern to bridge your custom centerpiece to the outer frame with lots of thin plastic "strings."

This release includes 6 unique geometry profiles:

• Ellipse (with an optional flat-bottom desk toggle)
• Heart (with integrated stand)
• Hexagon
• Rectangle
• Star (fully adjustable points and valley depth)
• Triangle

Drop in your own custom SVG file, adjust your shape size, dial in your string density, and print it. It looks like magic, but it’s just really good G-code.

Instructions

Using the Customizer is straightforward:

1. Select Customize: Click the Customize button on this page. 

   

2. Choose Your Shape: Select one of the 6 .scad shape files.
3. Anchor Your Centerpiece: Scroll to the "Center Object" svg file settings. Hit Upload local file to drop in your own custom logo or silhouette.
4. Tune the Model: Use the parameters to adjust the look of your model. All parameters have descriptions for their use.
5. Generate & Slice: Let the Customizer do the math, download the 3MF, and open the file in your slicer.

NOTES:

Sometimes the Parametric Model Maker server doesn't upload the SVG file correctly. If you upload the file and it fails to appear in the customizer as shown below, just reload the page in your browser and try uploading again.

Pro Tips for a Perfect Print

This model is a high-stakes torture test for your bridging and cooling settings. If you want those strings to look like spun silk instead of a spaghetti accident, follow these rules:

• No Supports: Do not enable supports. Adding supports to this model will destroy the strings. 
• Arachne is Mandatory: Use the Arachne wall generator in your slicer. The strings are roughly 0.6mm wide, and Arachne handles these variable-width paths far better than the Classic engine, preventing gaps at the anchor points.
• Detect Thin Walls = ON: If you leave this off, your slicer might decide the strings are "too small to care about" and delete them entirely. Many slicers turn this on by default when using Arachne wall generator.
• Turn Off Spaghetti Detection: Because of the long strings, some printers equipped with spaghetti detection may be triggered to pause or stop, so it is often better to turn it off or keep it on the lowest setting during the print job.
• Freeze It Mid-Air: Keep the ambient air cool. You want that plastic to freeze the millisecond it leaves the nozzle so it doesn't sag while spanning the inner void. Open printer enclosure doors and turn up the fans for best results.
• Bed Adhesion matters: Several of these shapes (like the Heart and Triangle) can come to sharp points on the build plate. Scrub your PEI plate with warm soap and water or 99% IPA before starting.
