Modular multichannel pipette racks

My lab recently acquired a set of Integra voyager series for space-adjustable transfers to complement our workhorse Rainin ones. With a larger collection, I could no longer just lean them on shelves without risking falling over. 

The official pipette stands/racks were unecessarily expensive. They are not compatible with each other. And getting the stand from both manufactuers would take too much space on my bench. 

So I made this modular, universal multi-channel pipette racks to store multichannels compactly and safely on shelves.

As the bodies of multichannel pipettes often vary by models, I made the pipette slot based on the Rainin and Integra ones we have. 

Currently two pipette sizes are available: Large (3.35 cm gap), Small (2 cm gap). 

• Large  (3.35 cm slot) - fits Rainin E4-12ch-LTS (1200), and Integra Voyager 8ch (1250, 12.5)
• Small (2 cm slot) - fits Rainin E4-12ch-LTS (300, 10) 

I also made some optional spacers. These are useful when the pipettes have big heads. 

e.g. The heads of Rainin 300 & 10 are the same size as the 1200 despite smaller bodies. This meant it would be too tight to have 2x 2cm Small-slot Rainin side-by-side as their heads are wider than 2 cm. They do fit with a big of squeeze, but for lengevity sake I decided to create a proper solution. 

The optional spacers also have 2 sizes: 

• Large (2 cm spacer) - sits between two Small 2-cm slots
• Small (1.35 cm spacer) - sits between a Large 3.35-cm slot and a Small 2-cm slot. 

The spacers basically recreate the larger 3.35 cm spacing for the small slots, so the heads fit comfortably next to each other while the bodies still fit snugly upright.

Pieces are connected by paired male-female ends. Just slide in to lock.  

You can print & connect as many pipette slots or spacers together with the fully modular design. 

Hopefully these the slot sizes work for other common pipette models. Please try it for yours. Let me know if you need a different slot size and i will update the model.
