Description

Desent: Journeys in the Dark - The Ultimate Storage Solution

Descent: Journeys in the Dark is one of the great dungeon crawlers - and if you've gone all in on the complete collection, you know the storage situation is... not great. This organizer fixes that. All your miniatures protected, all your cards sorted, setup and teardown cut to a fraction of what it used to be. More time adventuring in Terrinoth, less time digging through boxes.

What's included

This is a 7-box system that stores the entire Descent 2nd Edition collection (all expansions as of 2020, excluding the collaborative expansions) in the original game boxes:

  • Archive Box - Character sheets, all hero figures (20mm bases, with 18mm base variant included), large and small cards not in active use. Fits one medium expansion box (285x285x69mm).
  • Active Campaign Box - 4 magnetic player boards with token and card storage, active player figures, and trays for current decks (overlord, monsters, lieutenants, events, etc.). Each player grabs their box and they're ready to play. Fits one small expansion box (245x245x48mm). Requires neodymium magnets (5x ø2x2mm, 3x ø5x1mm per player board).
  • Setup Box - Conditions with display stands, token trays (health, stamina, threat/fortune), shop and treasure decks, dice (up to 36), doors, connectors, and large/small tokens. Fits one small expansion box.
  • Large Monsters Box 1 - Rail-suspended storage for large monsters. Fits one core box (285x285x98mm).
    • Arachyura (2)
    • Bane Spiders (3)
    • Chaos Beasts (3)
    • Merriod (2)
    • Nagas (3)
    • Ogres (2)
    • Blood Apes (3)
    • Golems (2)
    • Elementals (2)
    • Daemon Lords (2)
    • Troll (2)
    • Ynfernael Hulk (2)
    • Ettin (2)
    • Ice Wurms (2)
    • Crypt Dragons (2)
  • Large Monsters Box 2 - Large monsters, medium monsters, and all lieutenants. Fits one core box.
    • Shadow Dragon (2)
    • Giants (2)
    • Wendigo (3)
    • All Lieutenants
    • All medium (2-space) monsters (18)
    • Regular small (1-space) monsters (32)
  • Small Monsters Box 1 - 4 rail sets for regular-sized small base monsters. Fits one small expansion box.
    • 2 rail sets holding 5 monsters each
    • 2 rail sets holding 4 monsters each
  • Small Monsters Box 2 - The oddballs - models too wide or tall for standard rails. Fits one small expansion box.
    • Manticore (2)
      • They ar every tall and follow a different storage strategy than the other monsters. It's a tight fit and may require manual adjustment on original bases. If all else fails, the box still work for vertical storage without this component.
    • Bone Horror (3)
    • Wraiths (3)
    • Dispossessed (3)
    • Razorwing (4)
    • Shade (5)
    • Marrow Priest (2)
    • Ironbound (2)
    • Dark Minotaur (2)

Boxes you'll need: 2 core boxes, 1 large expansion box, 4 small expansion boxes.

Key features

  • Rails suspend figures at their base, protecting paint jobs. Supports original, 2mm, and 3mm bases.
  • All card trays fit thick sleeves (I used FFG).
  • ~3,800g filament total.
  • Some components are printed in two parts and glued together.
  • Tight fit in places - this is a complete collection crammed into retail boxes, not a display case.

Tiles & manuals

I store tiles and manuals in separate binders with top-opening sleeves and cardboard inserts cut to hold tile corners. It's far more efficient than boxing them. Photos included for reference.

I also strongly recommend printing the Community Rules Reference Guide for Descent: Journeys in the Dark Second Edition - a fantastic community effort that consolidates and clarifies the rules across all expansions. Find it here: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1729458/community-rules-reference-guide-crrg

Print notes

  • PLA works fine.
  • Some components require gluing (noted above).
  • Magnet holes may need after-drilling depending on your printer's tolerances.
  • Rail sets can be glued together but it's optional for most boxes (recommended for Large Monsters Box 2).
