Rotring 600 Case - TPU Padded

Bill of Materials
Description
This is a case for the Rotring 600 mechanical pencil. I remixed this model in order to add TPU to the case as I didn't like the pencil banging around inside a hard plastic case if placed in a backpack, pocket, etc. Excessive? Sure it is, but then again this is a case for a $30 pencil.
I used generative AI for the image of the pencil on the case lid; GenAI was not used anywhere else in this project.
I've created both a TPU insert to hold the pencil as well as a strip of TPU to prevent the pencil from banging against the lid when closed. If you like the model but don't want to bother with TPU then the 3MF contains models both with and without TPU for the case as well as the lid. You can mix and match lids and cases to your heart's content!
- For a case with a TPU insert: Print plates 1 and 2
- For a case without a TPU insert: Print plate 6
- For a lid with a TPU strip: Print plates 3 and 4
- For a lid without a TPU strip: Print plate 5
The default print profile for the 3MF has a .08mm layer height to try and help with detail on the lid image and for overall quality. Also included within the 3MF is a preset “Arachnae - .08mm Extra Fine@BBL A1”. It's just the normal .08mm preset with Arachnae set as the wall generator and Minimum Wall Width set to 25%. Choose your own adventure there. For a sharper lid image use a .2mm nozzle. I'm happy to receive any suggestions you might have for improvements to those print settings. I would advise using different settings for the TPU portions.
Magnets used to secure the lid are 4x2mm. Magnets intentionally protrude from the case lid in order to help with alignment of the lid and the case. You can see I promptly negated that feature by adding bevels to the magnets in the case to avoid having to lift the lid completey vertically when removing it.
