Description
3D printed ignition cover, designed to precisely fit the crankcase and protect the flywheel and stator from dirt, impacts, and external agents. ABS printing is recommended for its good mechanical and thermal resistance, useful on engines with hot areas and vibrations
If a PEI bed is used and you do not want the textured effect on the surface in contact with the bed, several solutions are possible
- Progressive sanding (grit 240 → 400 → 800 →1000) to even out the surface
- With ABS, controlled exposure to acetone vapors to smooth the surface layer, to be performed in a ventilated environment
- Application of protective clear coat after finishing to improve aesthetics and surface resistance
- Alternatively, rotate the model during slicing, add adequate supports, and modify print speeds to obtain a smoother outer face directly in print
These techniques allow obtaining a functional and finished-looking ignition cover, without compromising resistance
