Description
Infinity Rolling Oloid - Satisfying Desk Toy
This model is inspired by the fascinating Oloid Geometry, a shape capable of smooth and continuous rolling motion that captivates the eye.
When placed on a flat surface and pushed gently, the object performs a surprisingly fluid and hypnotic rolling movement.
The two-color design highlights the motion and makes the rolling path visually satisfying.
During its roll, every point of the oloid’s surface touches the ground – a rare and fascinating property
This model is split into two separate parts for easy printing without support and clean color separation.
The halves are joined using a press-fit hexagonal connector, allowing a simple and precise assembly even without glue.
This design also makes it easy to print the two halves in different colors for added visual impact.
Key Features
- Split along the model’s long axis for faster, more reliable printing
- Sturdy connector provides extreme stability and quick color customization
- Assembly tolerance - The hexagonal press-fit peg comes in 0.1 mm (tight fit) and 0.2 mm (more universal fit) options.
Due to printer and material variations, the fit may differ slightly.
So I add another 0.2mm tolerance connector.
If the fit is too tight:
- Lightly sand the peg
- Make sure the connector is perfectly aligned with the hole when inserting it
- Use the 0,2mm tolerance connector
Perfect as:
- Desk toy
- Educational geometry object
- Kinetic sculpture
- Stress-relief fidget
Final assembled dimensions:
Length: ~75 mm
Width: 50 mm
Height: 50 mm
Use a drop of glue if deemed appropriate!
Give it a gentle push on a flat surface and enjoy the continuous rolling motion!
