Description
I finally got around to finishing this Blue-Eyes White Dragon, and I’m really happy with how the FDM textures actually helped the final look. Usually, we try to hide layer lines, but with a heavy dry-brushing technique, they actually end up looking like natural organic grain or bone shimmer.
The Build & Paint Process
- Printing: I spent a little extra time on the supports for the wings to keep the undersides clean, but overall it’s a very straightforward print.
- Base Coat: I started with a deep metallic blue. I wanted the shadows to have that classic anime "glow" rather than just being black or grey.
- Layering: I used a heavy dry-brush of a pearlescent white/silver over the muscles and scales. It catches the light perfectly and gives it that "shimmering" effect the Blue-Eyes is known for.
- The Gold Accents: I decided to go with a burnished gold for the claws, horns, and chest plates. It breaks up the blue/white palette and makes the model look more like a high-end display piece or an ancient relic.
- The Eyes: Finished them off with a high-gloss electric blue to make sure the gaze pops against the darker background.
