Description

Sample design brick inspired by the Slant 3D video on CAD modeling best practices for 3D printing. I modeled several features from the video, then added a few of my own practices/reminders to help visualize the differences side by side.

My additions include:

  • Elephant's Foot Compensation — 1mm chamfer vs. no chamfer on the first layer (Orange Cube)
  • Vertical vs. Horizontal Hexagons — vertical orientation eliminates the need for bridging (Orange Cube)
  • Text Cut vs. Text Extrude — see how each reads on a printed surface (Yellow Cube)
  • Top Layer Fillet vs. Chamfer — compare how each looks and prints (Yellow Cube)

Print one out and keep it on your desk as a quick reference when designing for FDM printing!

The CAD files are included so you can open the model directly, poke around, and see exactly how each feature was built.

Credit to Slant 3D for the original video concept — I am not affiliated with Slant 3D and the video is not mine.
