Egg Cryptex—6-Letter Combination Lock EasterPuzzle
Print Profile(5)

Description
Hide something special this Easter inside a puzzle that only unlocks when someone spells the right word. The Egg Cryptex features six rotating letter rings locked by a keyed cylinder — meaning the egg won't open until every ring lands on the correct letter. Set it to EASTER right out of the slicer, or build any 6-letter secret you want: a name, a pet, a nickname — your call. All 26 letters and a blank space available to customize you own combination.
⚠️ Size & Scale Warning Two sizes are included: Large (130mm × 80mm) and Small (~78mm × 48mm, 60% scale). — Small size: use only a 0.4mm nozzle at 0.2mm layer height. Do not use a 0.6mm nozzle at small scale — ring details will not resolve cleanly. — Magnet sizes differ by version for the optional cover: Large cover uses 5×3mm magnets (qty 4); Small cover uses 3×1mm magnets (qty 4). Do not substitute.
Features
- 6-ring combination lock — each ring rotates independently through all 26 letters
- Keyed locking cylinder — true mechanical lock; rings must align for egg to open
- Two sizes — Large (130×80mm) and Small (60% scale) versions included
- Optional magnetic cover — hides the rings behind a snap-on shell held by embedded magnets
- Full 26-letter alphabet included — set any 6-letter combination you want. (choose your color in the slicer for the combination rings)
- Pre-configured Easter plate — sky blue egg, pink/purple/green rings, pre-set to "EASTER"
- Hidden compartment — hollow interior holds candy, a gift card, a rolled note, or small trinkets
- AMS-friendly color layout — rings grouped by color per build plate to minimize filament swaps
- Single-color printable — print in white and paint, or print all in one color with no AMS needed
Default Dimensions
| Version | Egg Height | Egg Diameter | Magnet Size (cover) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Large | 130mm | 80mm | 5mm × 3mm |
| Small | ~78mm | ~48mm | 3mm × 1mm |
Small is 60% uniform scale of the Large.
Some people have expressed difficulty removing PLA supports printed with egg standing. I suggest print it on its side and if using PLA as supports you may need to sand where the supports where interfaced. Or you can print the egg in PLA and use PETG supports if your printer supports it.
Assembly Tips & Tricks
- Load rings bottom to top — the combination reads upward, so your first letter (E) goes in at the bottom of the frame and the last letter (R) slots in at the top
- Key slot orientation matters — each ring has one full-width keyed slot and several false (half-depth) slots; always install rings with the false slot openings facing UP and the combination letter facing UP on the side of the ring
- Check your letter before locking — the small letter cut on the side of each ring tells you which letter that ring is set to unlock; confirm all six before inserting the locking cylinder.
- Organize print plates by color — (OPTIONAL) separate pink, purple, and green rings onto their own build plates in the slicer to minimize AMS swaps and reduce print time
- Installing the magnets — (with printed cover option) Large Egg Cryptex uses 4 - 5mm x 3mm round magnets that are press fit into the round slots. Check magnet attraction orientation before pressing them in. The Small Egg Cryptex uses 4 - 3mm x 1mm round magnets.
- Custom combinations — (Select print profile with custom combination) all 26 letters are included on Plates 2,3, and 4; swap any ring for your chosen letter and print a fully personalized combination. You can swap out any of the 6 ones spelling EASTER on Plate 2 with the ones that are White.
- Delete the EASTER ones on Plate 2. (Optionally add a new plate and complete the custom configuration there)
- Find the Rings you want. Each one has a letter on the face. Select and copy to Plate 2.
- Select the new ring you placed on Plate 2 and go to object and choose color.
