This is a replica case for the commodore 1581 disk drive.
Whether you're making a new 1581 or printing a new case for your old beloved disk drive this is a choice for you.
This case closely resembles the original with some practical changes to make it more 3D-printable and to accommodate 'modern' PC drives.
There is 2 print profiles, first print profile is the “fascia” design which allows PC floppy drives to be used including their front plates, also this profile requires AMS because this profile uses PLA as support interference for the PETG; second profile is for the Samsung SFD-321B and TEAC FD-235HF-D291 (relabled Sony MPF920) drives for a more period accurate look.
you will need:
4x 6mm M3 screw (to screw board)
10x 10mm M3 screw (for the rest)
optional: 8x M3 washers to put under the floppy drive. 2 under each screw
V2.5 of the board has 2 options for power, first is the same adapter as the original disk drive and the second is a regular 9-18V adapter. there is an extra plate called “DC jack adapter ring”, that part allows you to put a DC jack in place of the original power connector. There is one thing you need to consider, for clearance reasons you will need to put adapter rings flat side should be facing downwards.
With this PC drive adapter you can use any 1.44mb floppy drive with your 1581 build without any modification to the drive. I have tried 6 different floppy drives ,which most of them were black bezel ones, all of them worked without a problem.
