Ikea kallax DIY racks
Print Profile(1)

Description
An add-on to the Ikea Kallax shelf.
The tiers can be added based on your preference, with one modal with an increment of 10cm and a second model with an increment of 2cm
I took inspiration from the lax rax design, but found it extremely flimsy and wastes a lot of tape
This design allow user to reposition the height of the rack without having to undo any tape
It also has a ‘spine’ running along the z-axis, providing a lot more rigidity and can support upward of 10lbs (I used a 10lb weight, but it can handle more if the weight is distributed more evenly across)
Instruction:
Each slot in the kallax will require 4 racking pieces
Each tier will require 4 holder pieces
Each holder piece can fit 2 dowels
This is the dowel I use for my racks (affiliate link: https://amzn.to/4s4S4Oq)
I cut them to the size that would fit my use case
The racking piece will sit flush to the bottom of the kallax slot. They ‘can’ work without ahesive to the kallax, but they will move back and forth if you are sliding items onto the dowls. I personally use double sided tapes to mount the racking pieces to the side of the kallax slot so they are secured.
You don't need anything super strong, something along the line of (affiliate link: https://amzn.to/4kPVxy1 or https://amzn.to/3MJEH7l) should be more than enough.
ps: Due to the print area limit of the bambu a1, the racking piece does not go all the way to the top of the kallax slot, but I already have an idea on how to address that, just need some spare time to put it into reality
pps: I have tried printing with both petg and pla. I have noticed that with pla, the holder piece seems to be a lot tighter to remove from the racking piece, and would require either a lot of wiggle or a plier to take off. With petg, it was a lot more loose. However, both ways are still pretty easy to adjust, and they dont come loose once you have the dowel connected to both ends of the kallax walls, so I have not had any problem so far.
