Description

Waterproof Back Plate for Flat Directional Panel Antenna (Heltec V4+ Battery)

This is a custom back plate designed for flat square directional panel antennas like the 915 MHz LoRa panel antenna I purchased here:
https://tinyurl.com/panel915antenna

It reinforces the antenna and provides a protected mounting area for a Heltec V4 and battery behind the panel. The design lets you seal all electronics and make the build weather-resistant.

Use 3M tape to attach the battery and any other components on the inside.

Features

  • Adds rigidity and structural support to the antenna
  • Integrated mount for Heltec V4
  • Hole for Type N connector
  • Protects internals from the elements
  • Designed to be sealed with waterproof silicone

Important Assembly Notes

To access the USB-C port once everything is sealed inside, you’ll need a USB-C extension cable such as this one:
https://tinyurl.com/usbc-extender-6in

This allows you to charge or program the Heltec board without reopening the sealed enclosure.

To make the unit weatherproof, all openings must be filled and sealed with waterproof silicone after assembly.

Ideal for outdoor Meshtastic directional builds and long-distance nodes.

Print Settings

  • Supports needed
  • PETG or ASA recommended for outdoor use
  • 20% infill minimum
  • 3–4 walls for strength

Antenna, electronics, battery, USB-C extension, and silicone not included.

this is a pretty neat design. how well have you found these directional flat antennas to work versus a high gain Omni?

I found them to be much more directional but can go far distance. I also really like being able to put the flat antenna in more places that should look more low profile.

What sort of range are you seeing with those? assuming you have line of sight?
