Description

This model is a parametric end cap generator for typical steel, aluminium and other square (or rectangle) tubes.

Create your personal size by entering your dimensions to generate your end cap:

  • Valid size range: 24mm to 220mm (Square or rectangle)
  • Metal Thickness: 0.5 to 14mm thick;
  • Corner radius: outside radius of the tube corners (Tip : Usually it's minimum 2x the metal thickness or more) ;
  • Spring grab legs are fixed in length at about 40mm long.

Step 1

Overall size (mm)

Measure the width and height of your tube (Outside dimensions)

* Square tubes : Width and Height should be identical.

The measures will be the final size of you finished cap (the visible part).

Step 2

Metal Thickness (mm)

Measure the wall thickness (thickness of the steel sides).

Step 3

Outside corner Radius (mm)

Measure the outside radius of your steel tube

Rule of thumb: 2x the wall thickness is usually the radius

Since the grab tabs are being forced against the layer lines, theses cap are for decorative use.

Will not work for extrusions, tube shall be empty inside and have a min 40mm of free space.

[ Genrate with invalid measures ]

The parametric file has some basic self check for “value ranges” but you can probably enter invalid values. If you enter out of range values, they might not generate correctly the file. Also, invalid metal dimensions (like a super tight radius on an ultra wide wall thinness) will most likely not compute and render correctly. Same goes for radius larger than the overall tube size.

📇[ Printing ]

No supports, print and use. PETG will offer more “spring” than PLA, but both do work perfectly fine.
