Description
Direct Drive Conversion Using Stock X Carriage / Back Support Plate
This model is a compact and rigid adapter/flange designed to convert Ender 3–style printers that use the stock Extruder Back Support Plate / X Carriage into a front-mounted Direct Drive Extruder (DDE) setup while keeping as many original parts as possible
Why This Design?
Most Direct Drive conversions sacrifice build volume or require large, heavy brackets.
This adapter keeps your printer compact, fast, and simple - while giving you the advantages of Direct Drive.
The main goal of this design is simplicity, compatibility, and reliability:
- Use your original extruder or common replacement extruder
- No change to X or Z build volume
- No wide or bulky brackets
- Clean front-facing orientation
- Compatible with taller cooling ducts
This adapter was born out of frustration with Bowden setups.
In my case, the Bowden system caused frequent issues such as:
- Filament clogs
- Heat creep
- Inconsistent extrusion

Printer shown in the pictures is an Alfawise U30 with an Ender 3 X Carriage, using the ADKS cooling duct and More Efficient Extruder visible in the photos. The original Ender 3 extruder should also work without any issues.
