Description
Bushings are an essential component of skateboard trucks. Various manufacturers offer bushings in all possible colors and hardnesses. However, these are not cheap, so I thought, why not 3D print them myself? This model contains various shapes of bushings, and there should be some for your board that you can use. TPU is a necessary component here (logical!).
Disclaimer: PLA, PETG, and even TPU for AMS will not work!
Please copy the required number of bushings and delete the unnecessary ones, or simply create a new print plate.
I have now had my bushings mounted in the trucks for many kilometers, and there are no cracks or material fatigue. However, you should generally check your board regularly, regardless of the printed bushings.
Anyone familiar with TPU can stop reading now.
Basically, the TPU hardness determines the hardness or softness (also) of the skateboard bushing. In my case, I used Bambulab TPU with a hardness of 95a (I am 1.85m tall and weigh 86 kilos), which results in a soft and agile ride for my skateboard. You should use softer TPU types like 90a, or even softer 85a, if you are correspondingly smaller/lighter. Experimentation is key here. The use of other filament manufacturers can also lead to different results. Please also read the printing tips for TPU from the Bambulab-Wiki to avoid misprints.
The great thing about self-printed bushings is that you can try different bushings with different hardnesses. You'll be surprised what's possible and how the handling of your board changes.
