Description
Abstractica #1 – Geometric Spiral Wall Art
Abstractica #1 is a mathematically-inspired piece of 3D-printed wall art that explores the intersection of code and physical form. Designed entirely in OpenSCAD, this piece utilizes a nested pursuit curve geometry to create a mesmerizing visual vortex.
The design transitions from a rigid outer square into a fluid, curved central "well," creating dynamic shadow play that changes depending on the light source in your room.
The Design
- Style: Minimalist / Modern / Geometric
- Dimensions: 240mm x 240mm x 25.6mm (Perfectly sized for 256x256 build plates).
- The Vibe: An elegant "impossible" curve created entirely from straight-edged rotations.
- Base layers: Can be printed in a different colour to make it really pop!
Print Recommendations
To get the cleanest lines and the best shadow depth, I recommend the following settings:
- Material: PLA (Matte looks particularly striking for architectural pieces).
- Layer Height: 0.2mm (Standard) or 0.16mm (for smoother transitions on the slopes).
- Wall Loops: 2 (Ensures the thin vertical ribs are sturdy).
- Infill: 0% - not required
- Top Surface: Use "Monotonic" or "Hilbert Curve" for a high-end finish on the frame faces.
Display Tips
This piece looks best when mounted in a location with directional lighting (like a side lamp or near a window). The 25mm depth creates deep shadows that shift as you move around the room. It features a flat back, making it easy to mount using command strips or a small finishing nail. Fits nicely in IKEA Sannahed frames.
