A Survivor's Tale

I don't know why I survived. Perhaps the Abyss needs witnesses more than victims. Or perhaps the king didn't see me when it all ended.

I only know that I was there. And that I saw Agáres before the world died.

He was a just ruler then. A man who fought alongside his soldiers, who spoke of honor and sacrifice as if they were still real things. When the wars didn't cease and enemies kept coming, I saw him change. Not suddenly. Slowly. Like a wound that keeps getting infected.

It was he who ordered the crown. Bones of the fallen, he said. Defeated enemies. It was meant to inspire fear.

When he wore it for the first time, no one dared to speak. Not out of respect, but because the air itself seemed to grow heavier. At night, I swear we heard it moan. Or perhaps it was us, in our sleep.

Then came the final battle.

I remember the sound of the spear against the crown. It didn't break. It only chipped. A fragment fell into the mud, and I saw it move. At first, I thought I was going mad. But I wasn't the only one watching. It crawled among the dead, feeding on the bones of the strongest. It grew. It writhed. As if it remembered every blow it had received.

When it was sated, fury erupted, the field became a slaughterhouse. Men annihilated, banners struck down, screams for help. And then the king fell, wounded by the thing he had unwittingly created.

I thought it was over.

But Agáres rose again. I saw him grasp that creature with trembling, bleeding hands. The bones bent to his grip, as if recognizing him. He twisted them, broke them, reassembled them. When he was done, he held a scepter. He was not dead. He was no longer human.

It was then that it truly happened.

The chipped crown trembled. The scepter responded. The voices—I heard them too—merged into a single command. Agáres cried out, but not in pain. As if he had finally understood something we should never have known.

From that moment, he recognized no one.

He led us against our own walls. He ordered the guards to massacre the citizens. Temples burned. Children screamed like enemies. I fled. Not for lack of courage, but out of fear. Looking back, I saw the king raise the scepter and admire it; in his eyes there was darkness. Emptiness.

When I returned, long afterward, the kingdom was a charnel house.

Agáres still sat on his throne of ruins, the crown on his head, the scepter clutched like an anchor. He spoke to an invisible people. He gave orders to the wind. Perhaps he still believes he is protecting us.

I am the last one who can tell this tale.

And every night I fear that the Abyss will remember me.

Scepter of the Abyss: ~110 cm, printed with “A1 mini”, then assembled, colored, and accessorized.
  1. Rib
  2. Fixing pins (x4)
  3. Finger [a+b+c] (x2)
  4. Finger [a+b] (x7)
  5. Central body
  6. Joint pins (x14)
  7. Arch [a+b]
  8. Upper handle part
  9. Middle "central" handle part
  10. End handle part
  11. Rod [a+b+c]

Let's start by assembling the fingers:

➖There are 7 in total, 2 complete (a+b+c) and 5 with only two pieces (a+b).

Assembly is very intuitive, but I recommend inserting the “pin” first as shown in point (1) to prevent the flexible part of the pin from breaking.

Now, “energetically” attach the rest of the phalanges.

➖There is a second print plate with 8 more fingers (A+B) to further customize the scepter.

(((ALL INTERLOCKING WITHOUT GLUE)))

Once assembled, the finger is ready and articulated.

In this step, glue is also not needed,

so insert the Rib into the top part of the Scepter Body all the way.

In this step, we will need PLA glue (Recommendation: the excellent KRAFTPROTZ, available on Amazon).

After applying glue to the "green points" shown in the photo, insert the UPPER HANDLE PART into the Scepter BODY.

In this step, we will need a PIN and glue.

After applying glue to the "green" part (see photo), insert the pin into the hole at the base of the previous assembly, and then insert the MIDDLE HANDLE PART.

In this step, we will also need a PIN and glue.

And we proceed with the same step as seen in the previous assembly, joining pieces A and B which will form the ARCH.

At this point, we join the two resulting assemblies with glue as shown in the photo.
We close the two previously assembled parts with the END HANDLE PART, which will fix the “Floating” parts of the first part of the scepter.
Now we can dedicate ourselves to assembling the FINGERS; in particular, the two front fingers of the scepter are composed of three components a+b+c and can also be inserted in reverse according to your taste.

The same applies to this step, the fingers can be assembled as preferred, there are many combinations, for example, you can opt for a composition:

Example of phalanx extension.

A+B

A+B+B

A+B+B+B+B…etc

And then you can find the best shape according to your taste by playing with symmetry or total chaos.

Obviously, the customization discussion also applies to the front fingers of the scepter that we previously discussed.

Now we will assemble the second and final part of the scepter, its ROD.

  1. Using the last PIN and glue, join parts A, B and C of the rod as shown in the photo.

  2. Once the ROD assembly is complete, insert it into the base of the scepter. (always using glue)

(((THE SCEPTER OF THE ABYSS IS READY)))

Here, the rule of personal taste applies, as mentioned previously; this is the basic model I designed for my scepter to accompany my Crown Of The Lord Of The Abyss. which, if interested, you can find at this link:

https://makerworld.com/en/models/1409835-crown-of-the-abyssal-lord#profileId-1463400

Precisely for this reason, the scepter was also designed to be used as a crown holder for the Abyss, as you can see below in the photo:

❗❗❗UPDATES❗❗❗

Added print profile with ARTICULATED WALL SUPPORT.

Boost Me (for free)

Don't let the abyss take me too, a boost would help me escape from madness!!!! 🤪

GENERAL TIPS

➖ Entirely printed on my precious Bambu Lab A1 mini 🩶 (So anyone can print it, you have no excuses 😆)

➖ The scepter can take any shape you prefer, with a high degree of customization; to that end, I have added a second print profile with 8 additional (A+B) fingers that you can print and assemble as you wish.

➖Supports are very easy to remove.

➖ Printed in eSun PLA+, color “Bone”.

➖ I recommend thoroughly washing the print bed with degreasing dish soap before printing, to reduce issues related to bed adhesion, but this is a good rule to use periodically for any print. Personally, I have not experienced any bed detachment for any component.

0.4mm hardened steel hotend used.

➖Print quality was set to 0.28mm with Ludicrous speed at 166%, significantly reducing print times without compromising surface quality.

➖ The scepter was colored with highly diluted brown acrylic to give the bones more realism and accentuate all the texture details.

➖ For the grip, I used an old rag, cut it into 3 strips, ~4cm wide and ~40cm long, soaked them in coffee to give them a weathered effect. Once dry, I wrapped it around the handle and singed it with a kitchen torch to give it more character, but always be very careful not to burn yourself!!!!!

I HOPE YOU LIKE MY WORK AND IF YOU WISH TO SHARE PHOTOS OF YOUR PRINTS AND CUSTOMIZATIONS OF YOUR SCEPTERS WITH ME, I WOULD BE HONORED!!!! ALL THAT REMAINS IS TO WISH YOU HAPPY PRINTING!!!! 😉
