Description
FlushDeck: The Auto-Adjusting Sharpening Station
Eliminate the "Clip Gap" and sharpen with zero obstruction.
The FlushDeck is a custom sharpening station designed for whetstones. It solves the #1 problem with standard stone holders: Clearance.
As your whetstone wears down, it gets shorter. Eventually, the plastic holder becomes taller than the stone, causing your knife clamp or fingers to hit the edge of the base. The FlushDeck solves this with a Smart Shim System.
Inspired by https://makerworld.com/en/models/464758-whetstone-angle-guide#profileId-373449 which badly needs my model to preserve the integrity of the angle guide and prevent sanding it down on the stone unnecessarily.
You a whetstone, found mine on Temu = 18x6x3cm. You can choose any size and adapt the OpenSCAD to you specs.
🌟 Key Features
- Zero-Gap Fit: The Riser Block is designed to sit perfectly flush with your stone, creating a continuous surface for the knife clip to glide over.
- Wear Compensation: Includes a stack of 0.8mm Shims. As you grind your stone down over months of use, simply remove one shim from under the block to lower it. Your setup stays flush forever.
- Hybrid Riser Geometry: The block features a flat, sharp edge on the stone side for a seamless gap, and a rounded edge on the outside for hand comfort.
- TPU "Suction" Basin: The flexible TPU base grips the table like a rubber mat and holds the stone + block tightly together so nothing wobbles.
🛠️ Printing Instructions
This project consists of 3 parts. You can print them all on a standard build plate (A1/P1/X1).
1. The Basin (Base)
- Material: TPU 95A (Essential for grip and stretch).
- Plate: Textured PEI (Do not use smooth plates or glue; TPU sticks too well! Came off with careful peal from the Textured PEI).
- Walls: 6 Loops (Makes the wall solid 2.4mm thick for rigidity).
- Infill: 15% (But with 6 walls, it will be mostly solid).
- Supports: None.
2. The Riser Block & Shims
- Material: PETG or PLA (Matte finish recommended for smooth gliding).
- Infill: 15% Cross Hatch or Gyroid.
- Walls: 6 loops to avoid water absorbtion.
- Ironing: OFF. (The natural top texture provides better friction for the shims and less friction for the knife clip).
- Orientation: Print the Shims flat. If using an A1/Bed Slinger, rotate the block 90° (long side Left-to-Right) for a quieter print.
⚙️ Customizing (OpenSCAD)
Don't have the exact stone size? No problem.
This model is fully parametric. Open the included .scad file and enter your exact caliper measurements for your stone. The code will automatically:
- Generate the correct Basin size.
- Calculate the precise Riser Block height.
- Generate the exact number of shims needed to fill the gap.
Variables to change:
OpenSCAD
stone_width_measured = 59.44; // Your Stone Width stone_height_measured = 28.74; // Your Stone Height stone_length_measured = 180.00; // Your Stone Length
📦 Assembly
- Place the TPU Basin on your table.
- Drop your Whetstone into the left slot.
- Place the stack of Shims into the right slot.
- Place the Riser Block on top of the shims (ensure the FLAT side faces the stone).
- Sharpen away!
- Maintenance: When your stone wears down by ~1mm, remove one shim to drop the riser height.
Designed for the sharpening community. Happy grinding!
