Description

Do you need a square that’s actually useful in the shop, but you don’t need a “machinist-certified to the thousandth” square for everyday projects?

This one’s for you.

This is a simple, fast-print layout square set made for real-world maker work: marking lines, checking corners, quick layouts, rough carpentry, hobby builds, and general workshop chaos. It’s designed to be very straight and consistent for practical use, but it’s also honest about what it is: a 3D-printed square—great for “make it square” jobs, not for metrology.

What you get

  • Two sizes included: 6-inch and 8-inch squares
  • 1” wide arms for a solid, stable feel
  • Raised control/stiffening rib down the length (easier to grip and helps keep the square rigid)
  • DIY markings: you add your own inch marks (super quick with a ruler and fine-pointed marker).

Why you’ll like it

  • Quick & cheap to print (about ~2 hours and roughly ~81g of filament for the set on my setup)
  • A stiff rib = better control when you’re holding the square against an edge
  • Great “shop accuracy” tool: perfect for layout work where you want clean 90° corners and straight lines without babying a tool

How to add your markings (fast + clean)

  1. Grab a metal ruler you trust.
  2. Use a fine-tip Sharpie and tick marks right onto the square.

Print notes (recommended)

  • Layer height: 0.2mm
  • Walls: 3
  • Infill: 15% Cubic
  • Material: PLA (PETG/ABS would also serve you well)
  • Supports: N/A

***Heads-up***

3D prints can vary a tiny bit by printer tuning, material, and cooling. This set is meant for highly usable “maker accuracy,” not precision-machined tolerances. If you want perfection, you’ll still want a metal machinist square—but for quick layouts and everyday projects, these are shockingly handy.
